The pieces in this installation range in variety from drawing, painting, printmaking to photography. “Working on paper has expanded from preparatory sketches for painting or sculpture to now being respected artwork unto itself,” according to a gallery description. RESOBOX 41-26 27th St., LIC 718-784-3680 “Otogizoshi-BOKUSAI-” On view from July 18 through August 7 The theme of this exhibition by Japanese artist Shoko Kazama is Otogizoshi, stories from 13th centure Muromachi period that have been verbally passed down among children in Japan. “Bokusai,” boku meaning ink and sai meaning color, tries to show viewers that there are various colors in black and white. Kazama created the pieces in the exhibition featuring three stories: Shuten-doji, Issun-boshi and Urashima Taro. The Animation Art of Chuck Jones” On view from July 19 through January 19,2015 Animation director and artist Charles Martin “Chuck” Jones is known for his “perfecting” of iconic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Road Runner and Pepé Le Pew. As a partnership between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Srvice, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity, and Museum of the Moving Image, this exhibition will explore the works of Jones. This exhibition will serve as the debut of a 13-city tour going through 2019. It features 23 of Jones’ animated films, a short documentary, and more than 125 original sketches and drawings, storyboards, production backgrounds, animation cels, and photographs.
