hart Business BY VICTOR MARASSO FIERCE Smiling as she reminisced, dancer-choreographer Suzanna Stankovic noted that she has come full circle after teachg adult ballet at the LIC School of Ballet just a couple of blocks from the apartment building she used to lived in. “I grew up on 45th road in Long Island City, back in the day, when the area was still slightly seedy,” Stankovic said. “As a little girl, I wasn’t sure exactly which road I was going to take, but I knew even then that I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.” Possessing an abundance of charisma, Suzana ‘s motto is “feed your passion.” Suzana exudes an easy-going charm along with an obvious desire to live every day as though it were her last. When LIC Courier Magazine sat down with Stankovic at Panera Bread café on 35th avenue and 37th street in Astoria, you could sense the passion in her voice. The daughter of Serbian immigrants, Stankovic was taught from an early age the value of hard work. She takes nothing in life for granted. “My mom and dad taught me that persistence is the key to success in life,” Stankovic said. She told LIC Courier magazine that “one of my most vivid memories of LIC was a neighbor who always gave the kids on the block a lollipop. So you see that a small act of kindness can go a really long way.” Photos by Rachel Neville
