We are happy to announce the grand reopening of the LIC Flea & Food, bringing an array of unique vendors to the LIC waterfront. Also, for the first time the popular LIC market will have a beer garden offering selections from local breweries. So make sure to make the market, which is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., your next weekend destination. On this month’s front cover we have a young musical duo behind an Astoria band looking to bring what they call “Queens Rock” to the borough. This band is not only based in Astoria but also is highly involved in the surrounding arts community and even records in Long Island City. After releasing their first EP earlier this month, we wish them the best! This month our new columnist, a mixologist from LIC, brings us a one-of-a-kind cocktail made out of birch sap. Not only is the drink refreshing, it also has a unique sweet taste to it that no other cocktails share. Check out the recipe and try it out for yourself. We continue with our detailed real estate coverage with reporter Liam La Guerre, who keeps us up to date with everything and anything real estate related in your neighborhoods. If it’s going up or down, Liam definitely has it. This month, he brings us updates on a workspace provider opening its first Queens location in LIC, the borough’s first Doughnut Plant ready for business, and plans for the tallest Queens building moving forward. For April, we start the issue with wonderful news of Queens Boulevard, also known as the “Boulevard of Death,” making its move to becoming the “Boulevard of Life.” By August a strip of the busy thoroughfare will see improvements that will save many lives. Showing that anything is possible, we also bring you news of that wild coyote spotted in LIC. Authorities are still looking for the animal, so if you spot it do not approach it and make sure to call 911. We also bring you a preview of the fifth year of the LIC Arts Open, which will take place from May 13 through May 17. Over 500 artists are expected to shine during this five-day festival and we encourage you to go out and enjoy the art scene! Don’t forget to share your findings with us, and send your ideas and feedback to our editor Angy Altamirano. We are looking for people doing great things in the community. We welcome spring with open arms and look forward to a beautiful season with you.
