Sunnyside Shines announces the successful conclusion of its inaugural round
of Business Assistance MicroGrants to Sunnyside’s small businesses. This
new initiative is designed to assist small storefront businesses with small
grants of $1,250 to cover expenses that will help them remain competi-tive
and relevant. Potential eligible expenses include storefront improvements, costs
associated with scaling up, marketing tools and upgraded equipment. The Business
Assistance MicroGrants program was funded by a discretionary grant designated
by Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer.
Over 60 businesses from throughout Sunnyside applied to the program; this
enthusiastic response, together with the quality of the applications, led Sunnyside
Shines to increase their budget for the program to grant 10 awards instead of eight,
as originally planned. Applications and application assistance were available in
