On this month’s front cover we bring you something that will quench your thirst and get you prepared to enjoy outdoor lunches and weekend picnics. We welcome our new columnist, a mixologist from Long Island City, who will bring us one-of-a-kind cocktail recipes every month. He starts this month with two cocktails that incorporate pickles and beets – yes I said beets – into the drink. Take a look at the colorful images and get ready to enjoy the taste! We continue with our detailed real estate coverage with reporter Liam La Guerre, who keeps us up to date with everything and anything real estate related in your neighborhoods. If it’s going up or down, Liam definitely has it. For March, he brings us updates on a Sunnyside Yards feasibility study, FreshDirect selling their mega LIC facility and an old LIC zipper factory becoming a mixed-use office and retail building. This month, we start with the colorful renderings of this year’s design for MoMA PS1’s Warm Up music series. The unique structure which takes on the subject of water use throughout the world has us anticipating those summer afternoons filled with music. We also bring you news of an exhibition opening at the Museum of the Moving Image just in time for the final season of AMC’s “Mad Men,” and an Astoria band looking to make it to the top of the music scene while also keeping the memory of friend alive in their tunes. Also in this issue, we show why Astoria is becoming Hollywood East. Not only did we catch NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” filming a crossover episode with the network’s “Chicago P.D.” and “Chicago Fire,” but we also found award-winning actors George Clooney and Billy Murray dining at an Astoria restaurant. Watch out Hollywood, Queens is making it big! Don’t forget to share your findings with us, and send your ideas and feedback to our editor Angy Altamirano. We are looking for people doing great things in the community. We say goodbye to a frigid and snowy winter, and welcome a sunny and warm spring.
