The Howard Beach lawyer, and his family, were invited once again by a friend to participate during the NBA Cares activities, while also enjoying the other events of this year’s NBA All-Star weekend, which took place in New York City. Baron and his family worked together with some of the top players, past and present, from the NBA and their families on Feb. 13 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan where he helped sort and pack 160,000 pounds of food to benefit more than 10,000 New Yorkers in need. “It has become an annual ritual for me and my family to work alongside these NBA legends and give back to the community with such a fine organization,” Baron said. This year’s day of service was put together by the organization City Harvest, with the support of SAP and State Farm, and featured celebrity chef Mario Batali, NBA partners, and hundreds of volunteers from the NBA family. Baron had the opportunity to work with NBA stars including Damian Liliard of the Portland Trailblazers, Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks, and former NBA star Horace Grant, Scott Baron and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver a four-time champion with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. “It is very enjoyable and enlightening to assist and watch successful professional ball players who want to give back to their fan base,” Baron said. The next day Baron was also invited to be a sponsor during a luncheon being held by the Mothers of Professional Basketball Players organization where he was joined by mothers of different NBA players and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
