LOVE IS IN THE AIR We are in the second month of the New Year and have so much to share with you on happenings in Long Island City, Astoria and Sunnyside. On this month’s front cover we bring you both beautiful looking and tasty treats created by a couple who aims to capture “nerdy” and “geeky” ideas right in the kitchen. The cookies you see on the cover were hand decorated and created in LIC’s Entrepreneur Space. Check out other treats inside the magazine! We continue with our detailed real estate coverage with reporter Liam La Guerre, who continues to keep us up to date with everything and anything real estate related in our neighborhoods. If it’s going up or down, Liam has it. This month he brings us updates on the benefits a new ferry system and what it would bring to the Astoria waterfront. Also inside is an article about the city considering rezoning of LIC for more housing, and information on upcoming developments in the area. This month we start the magazine with the great news of the Hunter Point Community Library finally starting construction. It has been a long journey but the community will finally have a place to sit and enrich their minds, with a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline. This library, expected to be completed in 2017, will make a great addition to the LIC waterfront. We also bring you news of a company looking to ease the hassle of doing your laundry, an Astoria mom who teaches sign language to babies to begin communication with parents at an earlier age, and a singer who wants to bring positive tunes to listeners. Also in this issue, we feature health tips that will help you glow from the inside out and a guide from a local LIC chef to bring romance into the kitchen just in time for Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget to share your findings with us, and send your ideas and feedback to our editor Angy Altamirano. We are looking for people doing great things in the community. We wish you a speedy end to winter and hope the groundhog was right. ■LETTER FROM PUBLISHER
