40 FEBRUARY 2015 i LIC COURIER i www.queenscourier.com ■GIVING BACK My Locks for Love BY ISABELLA TAXILAGA In December, I had the great experience of cutting my long hair. A few weeks before Christmas my mom had asked me what I really, really wanted from her as a present and I told her that it was my wish to cut my hair. She finally agreed and then we talked about donating the hair to this organization for children that are sick and have lost their hair and don’t have much money to buy a wig or a hairpiece. Locks of Love helps them to feel better about themselves. The Saturday that I cut my hair, my mom and uncle brought me to this really nice hair salon in Forest Hills. It is called Micciche Hair Salon and the hair stylist was named Paulette. She had very curly hair and was very nice. She took good care of my hair when she cut it so that it would be good enough to mail and donate it. Even though my mom was so nervous, I was really excited. It was a very good idea for me and for this organization. I felt so good with my new look, my hair is now up to my shoulders. I felt even better knowing that I am spreading an act of kindness. This experience brought me a lot of happiness and I want to encourage other children to do this too because you would be helping another child. Cutting your hair is not the only way to help children, there are many other acts of kindness that you can do.
