45 the arts ‘Couture meets cuisine’ QCA welcomes new board members There are three new faces on the board of trustees at the Queens Council on the Arts in Astoria. Victoria Schneps-Yunis, president and CEO of Schneps Communications; Armando Soto, business development associate of Yenni Capital, Inc.; and Maria Odysseos, assistant vice president and branch manager at Investors Bank, were sworn in as new board members on February 5. The three new board members were sworn in by Borough President Melinda Katz at the Queens Council on the Arts’ creative workspace, located at 37-11 35th Avenue. The board of trustees’ role is to offer leadership, collective dedication, expertise and creative energy that will allow the arts council to remain a national model and to continue to remain on the cutting edge of innovation and inspired service to artists, according to the Queens Council on the Arts. The Queens Council on the Arts (QCA) “reinvented itself as a catwalk for couture and cuisine” on February 3 at Manducatis Rustica, located at 46-33 Vernon Boulevard, for the fi rst moveable feast artist dinner called “Hemlines & Waistlines: An evening where Couture meets Cuisine.” The event raised close to $20,000, surpassing an original goal of $10,000, to support scholarships for students in QCA’s High School to Art School Portfolio Development Program. “Hemlines & Waistlines” featured visual artist Mark Salinas and Chef Dave Martin, season one fi nalist on Bravo TV’s “Top Chef.” Chef Dave Martin preparing his Coca Cola braised bonelesss short rib entree with creamy grits and red kale.
