Emphatically refusing to make “pictures,” she has long focused on ways of representing her internal world. Using the term “body awareness,” Lassnig has regularly tried to paint the way her body feels to her from the inside, rather than attempting to depict it from without. Christoph Schlingensief On view March 9–June 30, 2014 Christoph Schlingensief (1960– 2010) was involved with a range of disciplines—including installation, film, theater, opera, and television— and created provocative works that stirred controversy and challenged the status quo. His well-known “German trilogy” consisted of the feature films 100 Years of Adolf Hitler (1988–89), The German Chainsaw Massacre (1990), and Terror 2000—Intensive Care Unit Germany (1992). Museum of the Moving Image Madden NFL: 25 Years and Running January 9–February 23 Organized by Jason Eppink, Associate Curator of Digital Media, and guest curator Samit Sarkar, Polygon As New York and New Jersey play host to Super Bowl XLVIII this February, Madden NFL: 25 Years and Running looks back on 25 years of the groundbreaking video game franchise Madden NFL. The exhibition explores this landmark series, highlighting the game's focus on sports simulation, and its aesthetic evolution and enduring cultural legacy. In addition to the five playable games, from the original John Madden Football (1988) on Apple II to the latest release Madden NFL 25 (2013) on Xbox One, presented as a large-scale projection, the exhibition also features a dynamic timeline charting milestones in the series' development highlighted by gameplay footage from each year. IndieCade East 2014 February 14–16 Back by popular demand, IndieCade East will take over Museum of the Moving Image for another lively weekend of games, talks, panels, and workshops celebrating independent games and the people who make and play them. Hear from successful designers, thoughtful academics, and insightful journalists; discover new games and try out platforms still under development; and show off new projects to a community of game lovers. See It Big! Musicals January 24–February 28 See It Big! is an ongoing series curated by Reverse Shot editors Michael Koresky and Jeff Reichert, Chief Curator David Schwartz, and Assistant Film Curator Aliza Ma Musicals are, by their very nature, filled with spectacle. They are heightened forms of storytelling, in which the narrative is amplified by song and dance, where characters express their innermost feelings in the most extravagant ways imaginable. It is a genre that celebrates artificiality and stylization, and the best examples of the form can only be truly enjoyed… big. Noguchi-Pratt Fashion: What Inspires Wednesday, January 22, 2014 - Sunday, February 23, 2014 In the fall of 2013, juniors in the Fashion Department at Pratt were introduced to Isamu Noguchi's collaborations with the avant-garde dancer/choreographer Ruth Page, for whom he created two royal blue, wool jersey sack dresses in 1932 to pose and dance in: wearable artworks that transformed her into a piece of kinetic sculpture. Noguchi's Early Drawings: 1927-1932 Wednesday, February 5, 2014 - Sunday, May 25, 2014 Reflecting in 1973 on his formative years as an artist, Noguchi remarked "I seem to have lost my facility but I was facile at drawing. I could do anything. It was easy for me." Noguchi's Early Drawings bears out this confidence. Each of the drawings on view reveals a very different facet of his quest to form a unique artistic identity in the years following his apprenticeship with Brancusi.
