FROM THE EDITOR
Happy New Year, LIC Courier readers!
I wish you all a happy and healthy 2018. We
hope this issue equips you with a great list of places
to see and things to do in your home borough.
For our cover story, we speak to food writer
Joe DiStefano. He spent 2017 hunting down 111
unique places to visit in the “World’s Borough.” From
a fabric store with tons of history in Astoria to an
unintentional public art piece in Long Island City
Queens is teeming with interesting places to visit.
A Long Island City resident is making it her
mission to raise more awareness about the city’s
homeless population. Jordana Guimaraes released
a book, #ItCanBeYou, to show people that both
celebrities and homeless city residents experience
similar struggles.
One of Long Island City’ favorite coffee spots
has branched out and is now serving cocktails.
COFFEED opened its bar and lounge and Queens
Native Alfonsi Biondi Jr. is providing thirsty patrons
with unique drinks that pay homage to the area.
You can try a Long Island City Iced Tea or a Blue
Angel with Brooklyn Gin.
If one of your new year’s resolutions includes
getting fit, Queens Native Kit Yeung has opened
one of the area’s only Muay Thai gyms. Professional
fighter Sean Hinds will teach you the art of this
combat sport that is popular in Thailand.
As always, we included the latest in real estate
and suggested art exhibits, comedy shows and
other events happening in your neighborhoods.
