Sunnyside Shines
Italian Cuisine in Sunnyside
A new restaurant has joined Sunny-side’s
lively food scene, bringing new
Italian cuisine to a quaint corner just a
short walk from the 7 train. Senso Unico
is the creation of owners Vincenzo and
Laura Garafolo, who bring a wealth of
experience to their new venture; Laura has
been part of her family’s baking business
in Astoria, Gian Piero Bakery, since 1995.
Vincenzo is an experienced chef whose
resume includes the legendary Le Cirque.
Senso Unico’s menu features standby
Italian favorites like spaghetti and osso
bucco alongside some dishes less famil-iar
to American diners, like fusilli avelline-si---
a woodsy, hearty pasta dish featuring
sweet Italian sausage, mushrooms, and
truffle oil. Stepping back from the excel-lent
selection of hand-made, fresh pastas,
entrees include sfritulliata---a succulent
dish of baby pork ribs---and daily specials
that take advantage of the freshest sea-sonally
available seafood, vegetables, and
other ingredients. Drinks, from apertifs
to espresso to limited-time surprises like
the spiced apple cider, are all served with
individual flare and a spirit of outstanding
hospitality. Senso Unico’s authentic yet
contemporary vibe transports diners to
Italy, while the outstanding hospitality
leaves you feeling utterly at home.
Senso Unico is located at 43-04 47th
Avenue (at 43rd Street, easily accessible
from the 7 train at 40th or 46th Streets)
is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12 pm-midnight.
