HAPPY NEW YEAR Can you believe it? We’re in 2015 already and we have so much to tell you about what is going on in Long Island City, Astoria and Sunnyside. On the front cover of this first issue of the year, take a closer look and notice the canvas for this colorful creation is a person’s face. How amazing! The colorful design was created by an Astoria artist who looks to bring out everyone’s inner child. From tigers to sugar skulls, we had to share this artist’s unique and beautiful pieces. Check out all her colorful creations inside the magazine! Starting off the New Year, we continue with our detailed real estate coverage with reporter Liam La Guerre, who continues to keep us up to date with everything and anything real estate related in our neighborhoods. If it’s going up or down, Liam has it. This month he brings us updates on the Sunnyside yards mega development, news of an innovative wine bar opening in LIC, and the first QNS Real Estate Conference set for February. Make sure to check out his renderings, photographs and in-depth reporting. This month we start the magazine with delicious breakfast recipes that not only look good, but are also good for you too. What better way to start your New Year’s resolutions? We also bring you news of a cooking school in LIC that just opened its doors and is aimed for singles and those looking to begin sinking their fingers into preparing homemade meals. We took a personal look at a samurai sword class in LIC, bringing a piece of Japanese culture to Queens, and we bring you up to date information on this year’s No. 7 subway line suspensions. Also in this issue, our friend and LIC Courier writer Alan Capper brings us an article on a Long Island City celebrity and chef – Gianna Cerbone-Teoli. She is the owner of Manducatis Rustica, located on Vernon Boulevard, and shares with us the story on how she got to where she is now. Enjoy Capper’s interview with Gianna and delve deeper into what it takes to run a successful business in LIC. Don’t forget to share your findings with us, and send your ideas and feedback to our editor Angy Altamirano. We are looking for people doing great things in the community. We wish you a happy start to the New Year and look forward to seeing what 2015 has to bring our way. ■LETTER FROM PUBLISHER
