Rocketman
Friday, September 13, 3pm & 7pm
Pretty much everyone knows that
“Rocketman” is the biopic of Elton
John (played by Taron Egerton). The
film is done as a retrospective, starting
out with the superstar attending a group
meeting for addicts after he realizes
he has a serious drug problem. Clearly
there to get better before things get
even worse, the group leader asks Elton
to talk about his childhood. The story
unfolds with a talented young Elton,
originally named Reginald Dwight,
growing up in a mostly loveless household
and goes on to recount his rocky
road to worldwide fame. Rated R
Director: Dexter Fletcher
Writer: Lee Hall
Cast: Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden
“‘Rocketman’ hits all the key notes: his connection with lyricist Bernie
Taupin in the late 1960s and the early seeds of their enduring collaboration;
the development of his stage name and trademark style; and his
star-making performance at the Troubadour in Los Angeles…Taron
Egerton gives a performance with such thrills and vulnerability, such charisma
and pathos, that it’s hard not to be wowed...you can see the effort
on display here in what was clearly a physically and emotionally arduous
role which includes doing all his own singing,..” ~ Christy Lemire, rogerebert.

Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) is a
unknown musician whose career is
going nowhere fast. On the night he
finally decides to give up on his musical
dreams, the entire word is hit with a
momentary blackout during which Jack
is hit by a bus. When he comes to, he is
shocked to learn that he seems to be the
only one in the world who knows the
music of the Beatles. Jack starts to play
their music as if it were his own and
quickly becomes a worldwide musical
sensation. Naturally, moral conflicts
ensue… Rated PG-13
Director: Danny Boyle
Writers: Jack Barth, Richard Curtis
Cast: Himesh Patel, Lily James, Sophia Di Martino
“The fact that Jack Malik, played perfectly by Himesh Patel, plagiarizes
The Beatles’ work is an amazing premise alone. Will he get caught? Will
he be in a quandary to admit the truth? Or will he or won’t he give up his
overnight stardom for love? Watch the film! That’s an order because it’s
that entertaining, enthralling and you’ll walk out elated…Richard Curtis’
script is superb…the dialogue is catchy, witty and noticeable like ‘Love
Actually’ and ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral.’…It’s without a doubt a feel
good film that will make you obsess with a ‘Beatles’ phase for a very long
time.” ~ Aly Laiji, thepeoplesmovies.com

“I’ll cut right to the chase. Disney’s live action remake of Aladdin
works…It’s vibrant, energetic, and just plain fun…Mena Massoud and
Naomi Scott, as Aladdin and Jasmine, bring great chemistry to their roles
as the street rat and the princess with whom he falls in love. And both leads
provide great positive messages for young viewers…A fun, magic carpet
ride of a film and a wonderfully powerful princess.” ~ Kristin Hawkes,
