“This country opened its arms to me. I was a young girl who suddenly found herself alone and stateless” — DEMOCRAT ANNA KAPLAN Candidate for Congress country hope opportunity security AnnaKaplanForCongress.com /AnnaMKaplan @kaplan4congress www.qns.com | june 2016 | lehavre Courier 9 “My story taught me the importance of giving everyone a voice. That is why I find the hateful language of Donald Trump so disturbing. I’ve seen firsthand what happens when a country doesn’t stand up against hateful rhetoric.” When the Islamic Revolution took place in 1979, Anna was sent to the U.S. at the age of 13 as part of an international effort to help Jewish children of Iran escape persecution. Separated from her family for more than a year, Anna lived with a foster family before she was reunited with her parents and brothers. After re-uniting, They settled down and lived in Queens (Jamaica) for almost a decade. In 1995, Anna became an American citizen, and for 21 years, she and her husband have raised their two daughters in Great Neck, where Anna has been active in the public schools, libraries and synagogues. Anna was first elected to the North Hempstead Town Council in 2011. She has fought to make housing more affordable for seniors and young families, renewed local infrastructure, and because marriage is a fundamental right for all, Anna is proud to have been among the first to officiate same-sex marriages in North Hempstead. In Congress, I’ll stand up against Donald Trump’s hate and: Make college more affordable by lowering interest rates for students and their families. Protect Social Security and Medicare and increase access to long-term care. Pass comprehensive immigration reform. ALWAYS stand with the State of Israel, our most important ally in the Middle East and the only country in the region that shares our values. Support equal pay for equal work and protect funding for Planned Parenthood. Democratic Primary Tuesday, June 28th. Paid for by Kaplan for Congress Endorsed by Emily’s List
