N E W S J U N E 7 L E H A V R E WWW.QNS.COM | JUNE 2016 | LEHAVRE COURIER 7 The big moment! From the small screen to the big screen! you work with, and you like Rachael. It can’t be all sunshine and roses. “There are very long days,” Anna said, emphasizing the word ‘very.’ “On shoot days I have to be in the editing room in Manhattan at 7am. Fortunately, there’s down time since each season ends around mid-May and doesn’t start up again until September. Believe me, we who work on the show need the break!” I told Anna that our readers—her neighbors— would be interested to know what she thinks of life at Le Havre. “I’ve been living in Le Havre for 8 years,” Anna said. “I love being by the water...my apartment has great views. I love the quiet, clean neighborhood. About Le Havre specifically, I enjoy the pools, gym and tennis courts. I like everyone in my building...especially those on my floor...great people! All of Le Havre consists of great friendly people. Even my daughters Jessica, 18, and Lillian, 11 like it here.” Nice! Let’s get back to the Emmy. I wondered what happened when they announced the winner. Anna laughed, “Oh, the announcer didn’t even finish saying ‘Rach’ when we all jumped up and ran to the stage!” She continued, “Editor Michael Orso gave the acceptance speech. I didn’t want to. Anyway, you’re allowed 30 seconds, max. Michael was so nervous about going over time he only talked for like ten seconds!” Anna said it was a bit of a blur after that. “First they shuffle you into a room to take pictures, and then into another room to talk to a reporter. It all went very fast.” I asked Anna how she felt about the award now that the initial excitement has subsided. “Winning the Emmy is great because it makes you realize your work means something, especially for an episode like this one.” We were wrapping up when I noticed that she didn’t have the statue. “No, it’s being engraved. I’m not sure when I’ll get it.” She paused and then said quietly, “Do you know you have to buy them?” Huh? Buy the Emmy? I was genuinely startled. She explained, “They give one statue for each show, but if there are multiple winners in a category, anyone who wants one has to buy it. Of course everyone does. How often do you win an Emmy?” After meeting Anna and seeing her work on this show, I would not be surprised if it happens for her more often that she imagines. Did you know the fi rst Daytime Emmy was awarded in 1972? If you would like to see segments of the episode, go to www.rachaelrayshow.com and search for “boxing.” It will bring you to a page with clips from the program What the heck is “multi-camera editing?” It’s not something we viewers think about when we’re watching a TV program or a movie, but a lot happens between when a show is filmed and it appears on screen. An editor takes all of the raw footage that’s been shot and pieces it together, deciding what to leave out, what to keep in and in what order, along with choosing the music, the visual effects and the sound effects--all in an effort to tell the story that the producer of the show has envisioned. If it sounds hard to do, that’s because it is!
