Buona Forchetta:
Homemade Pasta &
Italian Specialties
BY HELENE OELERICH
Buona Forchetta is located in Le Havre’s private
Clubhouse and is also open to the public. The food and the
staff are OUTSTANDING!
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. You will enjoy the
freshest ingredients and the highest quality of food. My first
delicious meal included fresh scallops wrapped in bacon
with a white wine lemon sauce. The special fish of the day
was Branzino in a lemon/butter sauce with mixed veggies.
There are also several appetizers, pastas, salads, side
dishes and desserts, as well as a grill and lots of different
sandwiches. You may BYOB of wine or beer.
The restaurant is small and provides an informal dining
experience with lovely pool, bridge and water views. As
the weather improves, there will be outdoor dining as well.
Buona Forchetta is open seven days a week. Breakfast is
served until 12:00; lunch from 12:00 till 5:00; and dinner
from 5:00 till 10:00.
It’s located at 168-68 9th Avenue (phone 718-767-2000),
and delivery is offered to the Whitestone/Bayside area. You
can view the menus at buonaforchettany.com, and you can
order online at grubhub.com.

Marching Towards Spring
BY NICHOLAS CHAVEZ
This month, winter will make its final curtain call
in a few weeks’ time.
As the cold weather subsides, it’s the perfect
time to defrost your creativity. Add new routines
and reevaluate your nutrition. December through
February may seem to last forever due to short days,
long nights and chilling temperatures. People tend to
stay inside and stick to old routines.
The beginning of spring gives us the opportunity
to change old habits and significantly improve our
health and overall wellness. Below are some simple,
yet effective, changes that you can make that can
have a positive effect on your life.
COMMUNITY SUPPORTED
AGRICULTURE
Community Supported Agriculture, better known
as CSA, has been gaining more popularity over
the years. CSA allows city residents to have direct
access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally
by regional farmers. When you become a member
of a CSA, you’re purchasing a “share” of vegetables
from a regional farmer. Not only do you have access
to fresh, high quality produce, but you also support
our local community farmer – a true win-win!
Other benefits include getting to intimately know
what is grown locally around you and truly understand
what each season of the year offers – this is
where getting one’s food from a supermarket versus
a CSA differs – supermarkets for the most part aren’t
connected to a specific farmer that allows them to
offer more variety and abundance.
Editor’s note: There is a nearby CSA in Douglaston
at Alley Pond Environmental Center. Visit justfood.
org for more information.
NEW RECIPE INSPIRATION
Welcome spring this year by setting some time each
weekend to come up with a new nutrient dense meal
you can cook during the week. Pick a day where you
have plenty of free time to allow for extra prep and
cook time. Implement nutritious ingredients that you
have never cooked with as a way to introduce new
items to your pantry and heighten your creative spirit.
Consider making kale, bok choy, cacao, or even avocado
the star of the meal!
VERTICAL & PEDAL
FITNESS
Goodbye 20 degree days, hello low 60 degree
mornings and afternoons! The ideal weather is rapidly
approaching which will allow for fantastic hiking
and cycling weather. Research a local park and enjoy
the pleasant weather with a friend or relative which
will boost motivation and increase physical activity.
Hiking outdoors has several benefits. It can improve
blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and build strength
in your glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings and core. Take
30 or 40 minutes to connect with nature and her surroundings.
Doing so will inevitability decrease stress
and anxiety. Be present and enjoy the moment.
If hiking doesn’t pique your interest, consider
cycling. In countries such as Denmark, cycling is
very much a part of everyday life. Meik Wiking,
CEO of the Happiness Institute in Copenhagen,
attributes cycling to the high overall wellbeing of
Denmark.
With the forthcoming nice weather, increase or
introduce cycling into your weekly routine. Happy
riding!
