F E B R U A R Y The Dining Diva:
LIOLA
BY HELENE OELERICH
LIOLA, a local restaurant right here in Whitestone,
is a popular place for lunch, dinner, solo dining, families
and friends and good for kids! There is also a bar
where patrons can choose to eat and drink.
Classic Italian dishes are served in an elevated,
exposed brick dining room with white tablecloths and
a lovely fireplace. The service is exceptional. Our
waiters, Alfonso, Mohamed and others, were knowledgeable
and considerate.
The owner and chef of this “Ristorante Italiano,”
Angelo, has been here at LIOLA for five years. He
named the restaurant from a man who was a poet,
Luigi Pirandello. Luigi wrote a poem called “Liola,”
which is the inspiration for the restaurant’s name. His
photo is on the dining room wall.
There are specials every night. All dishes are flavorful
and beautifully served. Menu 1 has salads, antipasti,
eggplant, baked clams, calamari, shrimp and scallops.
Menu 2 offers spaghetti, ravioli, gnocchi, risotto
and one of our favorites, spaghetti with tomatoes,
clams, calamari, mussels and shrimps. Secondi dishes
include chicken, sirloin steak, veal chop, filet of sole,
grilled salmon and the fish of the day. There are also
side dishes, great desserts and delicious coffee.
LIOLA is located at 15-01 149 Street. There is
valet parking. The hours are Monday - Wednesday,
11:30am - 10:00pm; Thursday - Saturday, 11:30am
- 11:00pm; and Sunday, 11:30am - 10:00pm. Happy
Hour runs from 4pm until 7pm, Monday through
Thursday. Take out is available every day from
12:00pm until 10:00pm. Phone 718-767-1110 or visit
