LBJ
Friday, February 9, 3pm and 7pm
Director: Rob Reiner
Writer: Joey Hartstone
Cast: Woody Harrelson,
Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bill
Pullman
“LBJ” is the story of
President Lyndon Baines
Johnson from his young
days in West Texas to the
White House. Woody
Harrelson stars as Johnson
as he is thrust into the presidency following
the assassination of JFK November 1963.
With political battles on both sides of the aisle,
Johnson struggles to heal a nation and secure
his presidency by passing Kennedy’s historic
Civil Rights Act. (imdb.com) Rated R
“Harrelson has a rip snorting time playing
Johnson, particularly when he shuts the doors
and lets down his guard…Harrelson carries
this movie almost single-handedly, and does
so with humor and panache. Grounding the
moving with more subtle performances are
Richard Jenkins as the racist Sen. Richard
Russell and Michael Stahl-David as Bobby
Kennedy, who can barely hide his dislike for
the man who now occupies his dead brother’s
office”. ~ Rafer Guzman, Newsday

Wonder
Friday, February 23, 3pm and 7pm
Director: Stephen Chbosky
Writers: Stephen Chbosky, Steve
Conrad
Cast: Julia Roberts, Jacob
Tremblay, Owen Wilson, Izabela
Vidovic
Based on the New York Times bestseller,
“Wonder” tells the incredibly
inspiring and heartwarming story of
August (Auggie) Pullman. Born with
facial differences that, up until now,
have prevented him from going to a
mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely
of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his
family, his new classmates, and the larger community
all struggle to discover their compassion and acceptance,
Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them
all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to
stand out. (Lionsgate Films) Rated PG
“Emotionally earned ‘Wonder’ celebrates compassion
without turning mawkish…handled with wit, grace, and
more subtlety than expected, ‘Wonder’ is a heart-driven
celebration of compassion and empathy. Tidy but more
than just an “anti-bullying” message movie, this is a
gentle, emotionally earnest film for anyone who follows
the golden rule in his or her own life. Every sniffle, tear
of joy, and lump in one’s throat is earned.” ~ Jeremy

Director: Bill
Condon
Writers: Stephen
Chbosky, Evan
Spiliotopoulos
Cast: Emma Watson,
Dan Stevens, Luke

Disney’s animated classic takes on a
new form, with a widened mythology
and an all-star cast. A young prince,
imprisoned in the form of a beast, can be
freed only by true love. What may be his
only opportunity arrives when he meets
Belle, the only human girl to ever visit
the castle since it was enchanted. (imdb.
com) Rated PG
“Its classicism feels unforced and
fresh. Its romance neither winks nor
panders. It looks good, moves gracefully
and leaves a clean and invigorating
aftertaste. I almost didn’t recognize the
flavor: I think the name for it is joy.” ~
A.O. Scott, The New York Times
