J A N U A R Y OUT & ABOUT
BY JILL DAVIS
Welcome to a New Year! But based on the wobbly way
things seem to be going, it’s hard to say how normal 2022
will turn out to be. Needless to say, it’ll be important to
double check what events might be postponed (for example,
“Mrs. Doubtfire” has gone on hiatus until March!).
I think I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that January
17 would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday. Her
passing on December 31st came as a big surprise to many,
especially since she had very recently done an interview
with People Magazine, and reportedly there was a TV
special in the works to honor her centennial. Betty was
so beloved by so many that National Day Calendar has
already declared January 17 as “National Classy Day” in
her honor.
And so to commemorate Betty White, here are some
of her more notable quotes. Smile. Betty would want it
that way.
“I have no regrets at all. None. I consider myself to be
the luckiest old broad on two feet.”
“Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life
interesting. If you live without passion, you can go
through life without leaving any footprints.”
About being called a legend: “I just laugh. Have I got
them fooled.”
“My answer to anything under the sun, like ‘What have
you not done in the business that you’ve always wanted
to do?’ is ‘Robert Redford.’”
“I may be a senior, but so what? I’m still hot.”
“I not only knew Houdini, but we had a very lovely
relationship. I really thought we had something going, and
then the son of a gun disappeared.”
“My mother always used to say, ‘The older you get, the
better you get. Unless you’re a banana.’”
“People have told me, ‘Betty, Facebook is a great way to
keep in touch with old friends.’ At my age, if I wanted to
keep in touch with old friends I’d need an Ouija board. “

With shows closing and reopening on what
seems like a daily basis it’s hard to say how
this year’s Broadway Week will turn out, but
it’s worth keeping an eye on. You can get twofor
one tickets, and I’d bet that some shows that
haven’t previously participated might jump into
the frenzy. The list of shows will be announced
when tickets go on sale January 11, but you
can assume it will be subject to change. Go to
the website and use code BWAYWK for your

UBS Arena, Elmont

Don’t talk with your mouth full…or something like
that. You may have seen ventriloquist Jeff Dunham
in one of his Comedy Central specials, but you can
see him in person at the UBS Arena this month with
his friends Achmed, Bubba J, Walter, and others. Did
you know that he donates a dollar from each of his
concert tickets to local charities as he tours the country?
That may not sound like a lot, but the money
sure adds up—to date, his fund has contributed more
than $1.3 million to charities across the US. Tickets
for his show start at $56.
