The Dining Diva:
You Garden
BY HELENE OELERICH
You Garden Xiao Long Bao is the newest
Chinese restaurant in Bayside specializing in
Chinese and Shanghainese food. Lovely service
and warm, cheerful environment!
There are lots of choices of dim sum, cold
dish appetizers, noodle dishes and many different
kinds of chef’s specials. Breakfast offerings
include scallion pancakes and their “fried
pocket” with chives and egg.
We loved the shrimp dumplings, crab meat
pork buns, Shanghai sautéed pork fried rice
with vegetables, soy sauce duck, and their
selection of yummy soups. Diners get a freebie
piece of Peking duck, and they give you
dessert too!
You Garden is located at 41-07 Bell Blvd.
Hours are every day, including holidays, from
9am until 11pm (note that the kitchen closes at
10pm). Telephone 718-767-6868 or visit yougardenxiaolongbao.

The menu is huge and we’re looking forward
to returning with friends and trying many
different dishes. You’ll enjoy it too!

Clubhouse Movies: January
Night School
Friday, January 25,
3pm & 7pm
The premise of this
movie is simple: A motley
crew of adults is forced
to attend night school in
the hope that they’ll pass
the GED exam and attain
a high school diploma.
Complicating matters
is the stern school principal,
who was Teddy
Walker’s (Kevin Hart) high school nemesis
years earlier. Rated PG-13
Director: Malcolm D. Lee
Writers: Kevin Hart, Harry Ratchford
Cast: Kevin Hart, Ben Schwartz, Megalyn
Echikunwoke, Tiffany Haddish
“Hart holds the whole thing together—he
has a classic deadpan face, and is even funnier
reacting silently than when he’s rolling around
on the floor and shrieking his head off—
and the comic spark between Teddy, Carrie,
Stewart, and all of the other characters is
undeniable. .. it’s to the credit of Director
Lee and his collaborators that ‘Night School’
pitches a comedic tent big enough to contain
something silly for everyone.“ ~ Matt Zoller

The Equalizer 2
Friday, January 11,
3pm & 7pm
Director Antoine
Fuqua reunites with
Denzel Washington
in this sequel to
2014’s The Equalizer.
Washington resumes
his role as Robert
McCall, a retired CIA
Black Ops operative
who now works as a
Lyft drive and moonlights as a vigilante.
When his long-time friend Susan Plummer
(Melissa Leo) is murdered, he embarks on
a relentless, globe-trotting quest for vengeance.
imdb.com Rated R
Director: Antoine Fuqua
Writers: Richard Wenk, Michael Sloan
Cast: Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal,
Ashton Sanders, Melissa Leo
“(Denzel Washington is) one of Hollywood’s
most dependable actors and also one of the
few actors who seems to make almost every
project he does a better project. There’s no
doubt that ‘The Equalizer 2’ is a better film
because Denzel’s in it...If you liked ‘The
Equalizer’, there’s a pretty good chance
you’ll enjoy ‘The Equalizer 2.’” ~ Richard

Kids Movie:
Smallfoot
Saturday, January 19,
1pm
A Yeti named Migo (voiced
by Channing Tatum) is convinced
that a human known
only as “Small Foot” is real
and has to prove to his tribe
that it does exist. The tribe
does not believe him (they
think he’s crazy) and he is
banished from the village.
With the help of the S.E.S.
(Smallfoot Evidentiary Society), Migo sets out to
prove the villagers wrong and that humans really
do exist. Animated; Rated PG
Directors: Karey Kirkpatrick, Jason Reisig
Writers: Karey Kirkpatrick, Clare Sera
Cast: Channing Tatum, James Corden,
Zendaya
“’Smallfoot’ more than holds its own across
the other family animated offerings that we have
seen so far this year. It has a gallery of charming
characters, pleasing songs, and a rich story… It
is nice to see a kids film that strives to capture
the interest of mature audiences not just through
innuendo and adult humor but through a thoughtful
approach to thematic concerns. An inventive, funny
and big-hearted adventure that all the family can
enjoy.” ~Andrew Gaudion, thehollywoodnews.com
