Le Havre’s 2017 Toys for Tots: Snow fl urries didn’t keep folks away from Le
Havre’s big Toys for Tots annual fundraiser, which
was held on Saturday, December 9 in the Clubhouse.
This was Le Havre’s 27th year hosting the event, and
as always, generous donations from local businesses
and toys from residents made it a super-successful
event that surely made lots of kids happy this holiday
season.
The afternoon started at 12 noon when two
marines from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve arrived,
ready for their assignment to collect all of the toys at
the end of the day. And there were a lot of toys, with
more than 15 large boxes fi lled to the brim.
The children got to work crafting “snowfl ake”
wreaths and writing their “Dear Santa” letter in
anticipation of the big guy’s arrival. DJ Mario provided
lots of holiday music, which included songs
that ranged from Jingle Bell Rock to Michael Buble
to Stevie Wonder. Santa arrived on the scene and
said hello to all the boys and girls, read their letters
and posed with them for pictures.
As always, it was a team effort. Le Havre donated
the use of the Clubhouse and took care of DJ
Mario’s fee (who discounted his fee for the fundraiser).
In addition, the new café at Le Havre, Buona
Forchetta, contributed heroes and hot food, and
Elite contributed the “elves,” Kelly and Tina, to help
out, as well as the arts and crafts supplies that the
children used to create their special keepsakes.
A raffl e was also set up which offered a large assortment
of goodies. Special thanks go to LeHavre resident
Joan Barber who once again again helped coordinate
the raffl e, which included donations from,
among others, local area restaurants Cascarino’s,
the Riviera and Tasty Grill, as well as local salons
Hair on 14th, R&L Hair Salon and Kragen Hair
Salon.
As always, the fundraiser was a winner, and this
year may have set a record! In addition to all the
boxes of toys, and over $3,000 was collected from
the raffl e and vendor contributions. Thank you
everyone!
