Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck,
Flushing and Whitestone residents
helped make some of the borough’s
veterans and children in need smile this
holiday season.
In an effort led by Assemblyman
Edward Braunstein’s office, 20 schools
and various civic and senior organizations
from northeast Queens collected
hundreds of supplies — including new
clothing, candy, playing cards and puzzles
— for veterans at the St. Albans
VA Community Living Center and the
New York State Veterans Home.
Thousands of toys were also collected
for local kids in need from groups
including the St. Mary’s Hospital
for Children, Transition Domestic
Violence Shelter, United States Army
and Ronald McDonald House.
Donations were dropped off at the
local offices of Community Board 11,
Dr. William M. Duke and Assemblyman
Braunstein and then distributed. On
Dec. 21, all donations to veterans were
hand delivered by Braunstein and students
from Benjamin Cardozo High
School.
The schools and groups that contributed
to the drives included the

“I was overwhelmed by the incredible
generosity of my constituents who
helped bring holiday cheer to those
in need,” Braunstein said. “I want

Le Havre Rings in 2018!
Photos by Nick Santo
It certainly was New Year’s rockin’
Eve at the Le Havre Clubhouse on
December 31! The annual party once
again drew a great crowd, and why not?
Revelers enjoyed a complete holiday
dinner and great music from DJ Mike.
The party started at 8pm and everyone
(about 60 people, an even better turnout
that last year) sat down to enjoy a festive,
Italian-themed meal with family and
friends. This year the food was catered
by the new restaurant located in the Le
Havre Clubhouse, Buona Forchetta.
The four-course menu included
appetizers of mini-meatballs and cold
antipasto, followed by a pasta course
with a choice of lasagna, pappardelle
Bolognese and fettucine melanzana. If
that weren’t enough, entrees included
salmon and roast pork, and the dinner
was topped off with desserts of cake,
pastries and cookies. It’s safe to say that
no one left hungry!
It wouldn’t be a party without dancing,
and there was plenty of that by the time
midnight rolled around and everyone
had a champagne toast to welcome the
New Year. When 1am rolled around, it
was definitely Auld Lang Syne time, and
time for everyone to head home.
To everyone at Le Havre, best wishes
for a happy and healthy 2018!
