“Summer of 85,” directed
by the prolifi c gay French
fi lmmaker François Ozon,
puts pretty young men on
display against an equally pretty
sun, dazzlingly blue sky, and green
waves.
The mid ‘80s period setting also
brings to mind a time when cinema
began to be infl uenced by advertising,
as directors who got their start
in that medium turned to feature
fi lms. (It will be screened on 35mm
at the Angelika and Village East.)
“Summer of 85” is so picturesque
that it looks like a fashion magazine

story, despite the inert evidence
