Danny’s French Cuisine offers an authentic taste of France
 BY TAMMY SCILEPPI
 A community-minded restaurateur
 and philanthropist, who has organized
several holiday meals for those less
 fortunate in his community, has
teamed up with a celebrity chef to
bring a taste of France to Flushing.
There was a warm and welcoming
 reception at Danny’s French Cuisine
during the restaurant’s Jan. 31 grand
 opening, despite record-breaking
 freezing temps. The restaurant,
which is located at 13-46 127th St.
 in College Point, offers authentic
 homemade French dishes and
desserts for brunch or dinner that
are Oh, la, la! …and definitely worth
a try, with dinner prices ranging
 from $20 to $38.
You can also reserve a table for an
elegant Valentine’s Day meal from a
 prix fixed menu.
 Owner Danny Lye, who knows
a thing or two about gourmet fare,
wanted to change it up a bit and
expand the food culture in his beloved
 community.
 So, he transformed what was
 formerly Danny’s Steakhouse to his
 newest gourmet establishment.
“I wanted to have a French cuisine
in my first thought when I took over this
restaurant five years ago,” said Lye, 59.
But he waited until he found an
 authentic French chef, who happened
to work as an executive chef at the
 famous Le Gamin.
Lye was introduced to Chef Segundo
Guaman by a good friend, according
to the chef, who is an Ecuador native.
Guaman, 40, has worked with many
 world-renowned French chefs: Chef
Jean Michel Diot at the three-star
 Michelin-rated Park Bistro, who
 facilitated his French culinary
training; Chef Daniel Boulud of Café
 Boulud; Chef Philippe Bertineau
at Payard Bistro; and Chef Phillpe
 Schmit at La Goulue Bistro.
 Guaman said he sources the
food served at Danny’s from “a
prime supplier,” and noted that his
 signature dishes include french onion
soup, escargot, foie gras, Sea Scallops
with Risotto, Duck Confit and braised
 short ribs.
 The Astoria resident shared his
secret for creating superb French fare:
He said it’s all about “sauces, fresh
 ingredients and experience.”
Along with the chef, food critics
and members of the Greater Flushing
 Chamber of Commerce had weighed
in on the restaurant’s exciting new
 menu.

Well, it turns out that Lye is quite
a busy guy. He also owns a high
 end Japanese Omakase restaurant
 called Kakurega Sushi, in Downtown
Flushing. And, as an active member
of the Greater Flushing Chamber of
Commerce, keeps giving back to folks
in need, in his spare time.
 In 1988, the Bayside resident
arrived in the U.S. from Malaysia,
 and employing his entrepreneurial
 spirit, quickly launched several
 businesses, including POS OneStop
 and Opala Payment System, which
 provide secure payment solutions
 that help make merchant operations
 more effective.
 If you’re wondering what the
 community’s reaction to Danny’s
 French Cuisine has been like,
 “everyone was surprised, and loves
it,” according to Lye. “French cuisine
in Flushing? They don’t have to drive
to Manhattan for great French food
 anymore,” he added.
The restaurant is open from 5
 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and
 Thursday and from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
on Fridays. Saturday hours are from
 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (brunch and dinner),
while the restaurant is open Sundays
 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (brunch and
 dinner).
 Special group menus are available
and can be created for the unique
needs of any group or event.
