Rothman Orthopaedics brings quality care to New York
Rothman Orthopaedics is the
largest private orthopaedic practice in
the country, says Dr. Michael Smith,
neurosurgeon spine specialist and coleader
of the practice’s New York Region.
The company offers world-class
clinical care for acute injuries as well as
common conditions such as arthritis. It
provides operative and non-operative
treatment, as well as minimally invasive
when appropriate.
“Orthopaedic care at this level did
not exist in the New York region prior
to Rothman,” says Dr. Smith. It is the
company’s strong presence in the field of
clinical research that differentiates them
from so many others, and this results
in the highest quality care for patients.
Its reputation has been built upon the
knowledge, innovation, and expertise
of its physicians who are passionate
about their fields. Each surgeon is laserfocused
on a specialty, assuring they are
well-trained experts.
Rothman Orthopaedics opened in
Philadelphia in 1970, expanded into
New Jersey, and then introduced itself
to Manhattan and Westchester in 2018.
It works in partnership with Northwell
Hospital, providing surgical care at a
number of Northwell facilities, including
Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, and
Phelps Hospital in Westchester County.
This January, Rothman New York
will open its flagship Manhattan office
on 645 Madison Ave., with a private
entrance that will whisk patients straight
to the office floors. This location will
contain multiple examination rooms,
on-site physical therapy, hand therapy
and x-ray, plus more. In short, the
practice will provide, “comprehensive
one-stop care,” says Dr. Smith. He calls
it Rothman’s “crown jewel.”
Working with Dr. Smith in the New
York area is Dr. Eric L. Grossman,
Director of Health System Relations.
Dr. Grossman specializes in all facets
of hip and knee replacement surgery,
with a particular focus on anterior
hip replacement. He can also discuss
treatment that avoids surgery. “If you’re
over 60, and your knee hurts, see him,”
says Dr. Smith. His goal is the same as
all the doctors at the facility - to return
patients to their active lifestyles as safely
and as quickly as possible.
Dr. Meghan E. Bishop and Dr.
Brandon J. Erickson are both fellowshiptrained
orthopaedic surgeons working
in the New York area, specializing in
sports-related injuries. Their goals,
in conjunction with all the doctors at
Rothman, are to discover the root causes
of orthopaedic injuries and find the best
ways to treat them.
Likewise, Dr. Melody R. Hrubes is
Board-certified in Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.
She is Director of Non-Operative Sports
Medicine for Rothman New York, and
currently serves as the Medical Director
for the Radio City Rockettes. If she can
get them kicking again, imagine how she
can help you.
Dr. Grigoriy Arutyunyan and
Dr. Joseph K. Lee are orthopaedic
spine surgeons who, like Dr. Smith,
specialize in a broad range of spine
conditions. People come to them with
many common issues such as arthritis,
degenerative diseases of the spine, and
herniated discs of the neck and lumbar
spine, many of which develop from
normal wear and tear of the spine.
Other specialists in the New York
area include Dr. Daniel A. Seigerman
and Dr. Justin Tsai.
Dr. Seigerman, a Board-certified
orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the
hand, wrist, and elbow, cautions that the
weather is getting cold, and that means
we need to guard against falls. If we slip,
we often extend our arms and hands, in
effort to break our falls, and that could
result in a visit to see him. So be careful!
Dr. Tsai is an orthopaedic surgeon
specializing in the treatment of foot
and ankle disorders. This includes
sports injuries, ankle fractures, flat
feet, arthritis, and more. Dr. Tsai has
a particular interest in the use of total
ankle arthroplasty to treat degenerative
ankle arthritis, and the use of both
bony and soft tissue procedures to treat
complex foot and ankle deformities.
Rothman Orthopaedics strives to
work in network with as many insurers
as possible, to provide outstanding
quality care for all.
