Some
of you may remember
the old

ART EXHIBIT:
THE SEASONS
Now through March 1
Tuesdays-Sundays, 2pm
Nassau Museum of Art
One Museum Drive, Roslyn Harbor
Nassaumuseum.org
The museum has mounted an exhibition that
reads like a veritable who’s-who of 20th Century
artists, including Jasper Johns, Norman Rockwell
and Marc Chagall. Quite eclectic! The concept is
that the array of art represents each season of the
year through paintings, sculpture and photography.
There’s even a little fashion thrown in, with a special
showcase of accessories by the iconic handbag designer
Judith Leiber. Tickets are $15 for adults up to
age 62; $10 for 62+; kids 4 to 12, $5 and free for little
tykes under 4.
TERRY FATOR
Friday, December 20, 8pm
Theatre at Westbury
960 Brush Hollow Road, Westbury
thetheatreatwestbury.com
516-334-0800
You’re saying, “Terry who?” He’s a ventriloquist
and was a big winner on ‘America’s Got Talent’ a
few years back. He’s been selling out at the Mirage
Hotel in Vegas for years, and now he’ll be at Westbury
for this one-night-only show. Parents take note:
the show is pretty clean and won Las Vegas’s award
for best family show. Now you know! Tickets start
at $49.50.
HOLIDAY TRAIN SHOW
Now through January 26, 10am-6pm
NY Botanical Garden
2900 Southern Blvd., Bronx
nybg.org
718 817 8700
The Garden had to move the venue of this year’s
train show because the conservatory is being renovated.
But don’t worry, the new place is mere feet
away. This year’s show showcases Central Park. Everything
you see (except for the trains, duh) is made
out of natural materials that takes artisans and craftspeople
months to put together. This is a great place to
take the kids, but adults, don’t forget about “Bar Car
Nights” for visitors 21 and over. Tickets start at $10
for children and $30 for grown-ups; visit the website
for more info.
THE NUTCRACKER
Sunday, December 15, 3pm
Kupferberg Center for the Arts
LeFrak Concert Hall, Queens College
153-49 Reeves Avenue, Flushing
kupferbergcenter.org
718-793-8080
I know, you’re saying, “’The Nutcracker’ again?”
What do you want from me, it’s December! This
family fave is back at Kupferberg, this time performed
by the National Ballet Theater of Odessa.
Unlike most things these days, tickets prices have
not gone up and range from $23 to $42, same as last
year.
Out &
About BY JILL DAVIS
Here we go again, diving into the heart of the holiday
season. Chanukah starts on Sunday, December 22 and is
celebrated until Monday, December 30. Christmas sneaks
in there on Wednesday, December 25 (the worst day for it
to fall on since it messes up the potential for a nice threeday
weekend. But next year’s a leap year, so Christmas will
be on a Friday!).
To help us manage through all the chaos, enjoy the following
holiday quips:
No self-respecting mother would run out of intimidations
on the eve of a major holiday. – Erma Bombeck
Marry an orphan; you’ll never have to spend boring holidays
with the in-laws. – George Carlin
What do you call people who are afraid of Santa Claus?
Claustrophobic.–Anonymous
I once bought my kids a set of batteries for Christmas with
a note on it saying, toys not included. – Bernard Manning
Anyone who believes that men are the equal of women
has never seen a man trying to wrap a Christmas present.–
Anonymous
The one thing women don’t want to find in their stockings
on Christmas morning is their husband. – Joan Rivers
The worst gift is a fruitcake. There is only one fruitcake
in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each
other. – Johnny Carson
Once again we find ourselves enmeshed in the Holiday
Season, that very special time of year when we join with
our loved ones in sharing centuries-old traditions such as
trying to find a parking space at the mall. We traditionally
do this in my family by driving around the parking
lot until we see a shopper emerge from the mall, then we
follow her, in very much the same spirit as the Three Wise
Men, who 2,000 years ago followed a star, week after week,
until it led them to a parking space. – Dave Barry
Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas and Happy New
Year to one and all! Check out some of the events coming
