NOVEMBER 16
BY JILL DAVIS OOuutt About
&Happy Thanksgiving! This year we celebrate on November 22.
If you’re hosting and feeling stressed over cooking the holiday feast, remember there’s
always the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line to the rescue (1-800-288-8372). Butterball has its
entire staff of home economists on duty Thanksgiving Day to handle the 7,000 to 8,000
calls it expects to receive that day (that’s a lot of helpless cooks!).
And don’t be afraid that your questions will be too dumb. Here are some true Butterball
Talk-Line call-in stories:
A man cut his turkey in half with a chain saw and wanted to know if the oil from the
chain would adversely affect the turkey.
Asked what state her turkey was in, the caller told the Talk-Line operator, “Florida.”
A first-time father was worried the turkey had been thawing in the refrigerator too long
while his wife was in the hospital giving birth. Asked how much it weighed, the dad replied,
“The turkey or the baby?”
A woman in her 70s, cooking Thanksgiving for the first time, called for help because her
mother said she was tired of cooking and it was time her daughter learned how to prepare
the Thanksgiving meal.
A caller inquired how long it takes to thaw a fresh turkey.
And now, see what else is happening in next few weeks:
Le Havre Annual Art Show

afternoon of art, and it’s practically around the
corner! Local artists will be exhibiting (and selling)
their work in painting, photography, jewelry
and other media. There’s some really outstanding
talent out there, and it’s a great way to enjoy a
Sunday complete with live music, a little wine and
cheese, plus raffles for prizes. You don’t want to miss it (and p.s., entry is free!).
Steve Martin & Martin Short

Tilles Center
720 Northern Blvd., Brookville
tillescenter.org
516-299-3100
Dubbed “An Evening You Will Forget for
the Rest of Your Life”, Steve Martin and Martin
Short are bopping around the country
presenting new material in a combination of musical sketches and conversations. These
two are funny on their own, so I can only imagine what they must be like together!
They’ll be joined by the Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band The Steep Canyon
Rangers and jazz pianist and Jimmy Kimmel Live band member Jeff Babko. Tickets
range from $40 to $250.
A Christmas Carol
Friday, November 23, 2018,
7:30pm
Queensborough Center
for the Performing Arts
222-05 56 Avenue, Bayside
qcc.edu/qpac
718-631-6311
The scheduling of this show
assumes that you will have recovered
from your Thanksgiving
turkey coma and/or Black Friday
shopping by then. Regardless, A
Christmas Carol has become a
holiday staple at QPAC, and they
promise that this year’s staging is
a brand new production. Tickets
are $35 and $45. Note that 50%
of the ticket sales will be donated
to the QCC Fund to benefit
QPAC, so don’t be a Scrooge!
16 CRYDER POINT COURIER | NOVEMBER 2018 | WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM
Ronnie Spector & the Ronettes
Saturday, November 24, 8pm
Madison Theatre at Molloy College
1000 Hempstead Avenue,
Rockville Centre
madisontheatreny.org
516-323-4444
Take the opportunity to see Ronnie Spector
live, performing for the first time since
the 1970s as Ronnie Spector & the Ronettes.
The group is a member of the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame and was recently named by
Billboard Magazine as the #1 Greatest Girl
Group Song of All Time. The concert will
feature Ronnie’s Christmas classics along
with the Ronettes’ big hits, leading the Daily
News to urge us to “Go and experience the
ultimate sonic stocking stuffer!” Tickets are
$45 and $55, which are worth walking in the
rain for.
Camelot
Saturday, November 24 – Sunday, December 9 (dates/times vary)
Broadhollow Theater
700 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont
broadhollow.org
516-775-4420
First it was a Broadway
hit, then an Oscar-winning
movie musical. It’s
a pretty harrowing story,
though: King Arthur is an
idealist and hopes to create
Camelot, a kingdom built
on honor and dignity. But
then his beautiful queen,
Guenevere, falls in love with
the handsome young knight,
Lancelot, and the fate of the
entire kingdom hangs in the
balance (and you thought
you were having a bad day).
Lerner and Loewe’s score is
terrific, topped by (IMO) “If Ever I Would Leave You,” only one of the most romantic
songs ever! Tickets are $24 for folks 65 or better; $26 for everyone else.
Holiday Cookies & Crafts
Saturday, December 1,
12pm-2pm
Bayside Historical Society
Ft. Totten, Bayside
baysidehistorical.org
718-352-1548
BHS is hosting this walk-in
workshop at the Castle for a couple
of hours of holiday crafting.
But you may want to go just for the
hot cocoa and cookies (and an appearance
by Santa!). It’s just $5 per
child and $15 maximum per family,
a modest investment for holiday
décor, I’d say!
