ELIAS CORNER (A Revisit)
BY HELENE OELERICH
I last wrote about Elias Corner a
couple of years ago, and it’s so good it’s
worth reviewing again. In a nutshell,
this Greek restaurant in Astoria with no
menu is one of the best seafood restaurants
in NYC. My family, friends and
I revisit time and time again! In fact,
when my brother would visit us from
California, he would let us pick him up
at the airport, but only if we would stop
and eat at Elias Corner fi rst, and then
come to our home!
This old school, homey experience
with simple Greek food is prepared using
fresh, large portions and always serves
whatever comes in from any part of the
world on the day you arrive! Th e staff
will tell you what is available and you can
choose from the front area of the restaurant
to choose what you want to eat.
Th ere is swordfi sh, monkfi sh, stripped
bass, Chilean sea bass, red salmon, oysters,
octopus, Branzino and shrimp, just
to name a few. Th e lobsters are wonderful,
as is the soft shell crab, kebabs and
many other dishes. You may have your
dinner grilled or fried. Th e veggies and
fried potatoes are wonderful too, and
you must have their Greek salad with
dressing...fabulous!
Th e restaurant doesn’t accept credit
cards (cash only!). You can buy wine
or drinks, and you may also bring your
own wine for a $10 corkage fee. Th ere
is also a back patio to eat in the nice
weather. Th e restaurant is kid friendly
and off ers free parking. Th ey don’t take
reservations, so come early so you don’t
have to wait for a table.
Elias Corner located at 24-02 31st
Street in Astoria. Th e hours are Monday
Friday from 4pm-Midnight and
Saturday-Sunday from 12 Noon-Midnight.
