ESCAPE TO
MARGARITAVILLE
Thursday, October 7, 8:00 pm
Tilles Center, Brookville
tillescenter.org
No, this isn’t a Jimmy Buffett concert—it’s a musical
comedy based largely on his classic songs (plus a few
originals). To be honest, it didn’t last long on Broadway
despite some strong reviews: USA Today called it “A little
slice of paradise!” and Entertainment Weekly said,
“It will knock your flip-flops off!” Please note that
attendees need to be fully vaccinated and must show
proof at time of entry in order to attend. Tickets range
from $49 to $89.

qcc.cuny.edu/QPAC
Queensborough Performing Arts Center does it
again. This Beatles tribute group known as “Here
Comes the Sun” is comprised of five vocalists (hey, the
Beatles did it with only four!). The band not only plays
the best-known Beatles’ classics but throws in some
of their B-sides as well. They’ve played on Broadway
and at Lincoln Center, but Bay Terrace is practically
around the corner. Single Occupancy Cars: $50, Full
Occupancy Cars: $100. Visit QPAC’s website for more
details.
Well, the official end of summer is drawing near, and
after the pretty dreary and very wet summer we’ve had,
that might be good news. The Autumnal Equinox happens
on September 22 this year, after which days start to grow
shorter <sigh>.
September 21 is World Gratitude Day, which was created
by the United Nations Meditation Group. The roots
of World Gratitude Day date to 1965 at the International
East-West Center in Hawaii during a Thanksgiving Dinner.
At the dinner, attendees pledged to hold a Gratitude
Gathering to express appreciation for the great things that
individuals and groups do the following September 21 in
their in their home countries and it grew to be an annual
event.
It’s only fitting, then, that September also heralds National
Good Neighbor Day, which is acknowledged
each year on September 28. We can thank Mrs. Becky
Mattson of Lakeside, Montana who, in the early 1970s,
recognized the importance of good neighbors and
started the effort to make this a National day. With the
help of Congressman Mike Mansfield, she succeeded in
getting three presidents (Nixon, Ford, and Carter) to
reach across the aisle and issue proclamations. In 2003,
the U.S. Senate passed a resolution, sponsored by Montana
Senator Max Baucus, making September 28, National
Good Neighbor Day.

infamous “Amazing Maize Maze.” Tickets are sold only

Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh
jonesbeach.com
Although the Dave Matthews Band won the Rock &
Roll Hall of Fame’s fan vote last year, the venerable institution
passed them over—for now. It would be hard
to believe they won’t be inducted soon…with its 2018
album, “Come Tomorrow,” the band became the first
group in history to have seven consecutive studio albums
debut at # 1. So don’t wait until tomorrow to get
your tickets, which start at $117. Go to the Jones Beach
website for more information.
