Fountain of Youth
Never mind Ponce de León…if anyone has the secret to youth, it’s Cryder Point
resident Rose Girome. Rose celebrated her 109th birthday on January 13 (see the
photo here for proof!). As always, she defies the march of time.
Rose, on behalf of all your Cryder Point friends and neighbors, we hope you feel as
good as you look--and you look absolutely fantastic. Stay as vital and vibrant as you
are so that we can celebrate many more milestone birthdays with you…and we hope
you enjoyed that cake! Photo courtesy of Beverly Jacobs

COVID-19 REMINDERS
FEBRUARY 2021
Update: The positivity rate in NYC has started to decline following a post-holiday
spike in January. Concerns are growing over variants of the virus and efforts to
increase vaccinations are underway, but information regarding the distribution
of vaccines is changing rapidly. Readers are advised to stay on top of local news
for the most up-to-date information. As we wait for broad supply and distribution,
it is important to remember protective measures.
At Cryder Point, face coverings are NOT optional
Residents, guests, visitors and delivery people must wear a face
covering when in common areas
This applies to all common areas of all buildings
Use a scarf or bandana if a mask is not available
Stay at home
Avoid travel and out-of-state visitors as much as possible.
Limit your outside activities to the necessities such as going to
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
February Nor’Easter
February greeted us with the biggest
snowstorm NYC has seen in
five years. Television channel NY1
reports that Whitestone was hit
with 14.7 inches, but the amount
of snow is only part of the story.
It was a true nor’easter, with
biting cold and wind gusts that
topped 40 mph.
I mention all this to give credit
where it’s due. Major thanks go to
Bill Newell and our dedicated staff
for their tireless work to keep our
paths, sidewalk and driveways clear.
Not only were they battling the downright
awful conditions, but they did so as equipment
was acting up (it’s a little hard to navigate a Bobcat
when it won’t go in reverse!). Nevertheless
they got the job done. Thanks to you all—and I
hope you got some rest afterwards.
BuildingLink
Approximately 2/3 of apartments have registered
with BuildingLink, but not all have activated
their accounts. Those of you who have
active accounts are aware of the many updates
that are sent out from Management using this
tool, such as emergency repair notifications, etc.
It’s a lot faster and more efficient than using paper
notices, and everyone is urged to sign up. Please
contact Bridget Matus in the office if you have any
questions about how to get started.
Covid Vaccine Update
At press time, the Governor reported that the
supply of vaccine to NYS is scheduled to increase
by 20% over the course of February. Concurrently,
the federal government announced plans
to begin direct distribution to pharmacies across
the country beginning February 11, although the
number of pharmacies will be limited at first.
Overall, the rollout of the vaccine continues to
be slow, and scheduling an appointment remains
challenging. Please refer to the sidebar on this
page for information on scheduling an appointment.
Below are some CDC guidlines for your reference.
CDC Guidelines: Testing and Tracing
If you test positive, the CDC advises
that you stay quarantined at home except
to receive medical care.
It is highly recommended that
you be tested if you have been in
close contact with someone who
has been diagnosed with the virus.
If you live in a multi-person
household, all residents in the
household should be tested and
abide by the quarantine—even if
one person does not exhibit symptoms
of the virus, they may be carriers
and spread it to others.
It is recommended that you tell neighbors
and friends who you’ve been in personal contact
with recently. This will help to trace the virus and
stem any potential outbreak in the complex.
Do not permit anyone into your apartment
unless there is an emergency. For their safety,
potential visitors must be told of your condition
beforehand.
More detailed information can be found on the
CDC’s website at www.cdc.gov.
How Management Can Help
Residents who have tested positive are urged to
report their condition to the Management Office as
soon as you are diagnosed so that they can be helped
during quarantine. Please also remember that reporting
your condition helps protect your neighbors.
It is our intention to keep your information
confidential. Metro Management has advised
that identifying information cannot be divulged
unless you or someone in your
household breaks quarantine protocols, which
would create a health hazard to others.
CPOC staff can have deliveries and/or mail delivered
outside your door.
You may also call to have a porter pick up your
trash outside your door so that you do not need
to go to the compactor room.
Call Bridget Matus in the Management Office
(718-767-5003 Ext. 2) with any questions about
assistance.
Please contact Management if you have any
questions. Be well and stay safe.
Till next time, Jill Davis

the grocery store.
Wash your hands often
Use regular soap and water for 20 seconds (that’s two verses of
“Happy Birthday”).
Use sanitizer as a second choice if soap isn’t available.
Keep your distance
No congregating!
Always practice social distancing, i.e., stay 6 feet away from the
next person, even if you are wearing a mask
If you don’t feel well
Seek medical care if you are not feeling well for 3 to 4 days.
Unfortunately, not everyone is tested for the virus.
The symptoms vary widely, so it’s difficult to tell if you actually
have the coronavirus if you have not been tested.
However, you will likely be advised by your medical professional
to self-quarantine. It is imperative that you do so until you are
medically cleared.
Notify Management so that you can be assisted, e.g., having
your trash picked up outside your door.
WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER!
