Out &
About
February, 2021
BY JILL DAVIS
I know, it’s February. Cold, short days and, as we know, it
arrived with a clobber of a snowstorm. And in late-breaking
news, Puxatawny Phil saw his shadow on Groundhog’s
Day, predicting another six weeks of winter. Yuck. Well at
least February is a short month.
And now, for your entertainment, here are some humorous
quotes in time for Valentine’s Day:
“By all means marry. If you get a good wife, you’ll be
happy. If you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher.”
– Socrates
“You can’t buy love, but you can pay heavily for it.” –
Henny Youngman
“Love thy neighbor—and if he happens to be tall, debonair
and devastating, it will be that much easier.” – Mae
West
“People who throw kisses are hopelessly lazy.” – Bob
Hope
“My friends tell me I have an intimacy problem. But they
don’t really know me.” – Garry Shandling
“My wife was afraid of the dark. Then she saw me naked
and now she’s afraid of the light.” – Rodney Dangerfield
BAYSIDE HISTORICAL
SOCIETY
20th Annual Winter Art Show (Virtual)
February 1 - 28
Baysidehistorical.org
The Society holds its art show every winter, and
even current restrictions wouldn’t stop them. The
whole month-long show is being held online this
year, and while it may not be as much fun as strolling
through the impressive Fort Totten castle, it’s kind of
nice not to have to get all bundled up. Visit the organization’s
website and check out the beautiful oils,
watercolors and photographs.
NYC INDOOR DINING REOPENING
You’re in luck if you’d like dinner out on Valentine’s Day. At press
time, indoor dining at NYC restaurants will be reopening on February
14. The maximum capacity is set at 25%, so best to make a reservation
soon if you want to get a table. (If you want to venture a little further to
Nassau County, restaurants there are open at 50% capacity.) Note that
recent trends indicate that it’s becoming more fashionable to have dinner
earlier, so take that into consideration when booking a reservation.
