FEBRUARY 12
Photo of the Month
BY JILL DAVIS
Joe Hollander wins the kudos this month for his beautiful
nighttime photo. Marsha Gellert, prolific as always,
started off the New Year with her lovely array of Cryder
Point pictures. Thanks to you both!
The weather’s been pretty cooperative so far this season
(I hope I didn’t just jinx things!) and I hope that encourages
folks to step out and take some pics. Remember, we’ve
got a lot of time till we see flowers blooming again, so keep
your phones and cameras handy!
A reminder about the contest rules:
The photographer must be a resident of Cryder Point,
and all photos must of the property or of a view from the
property. They also must be current, that is, taken no more
than a couple of months before you submit them.
Any description of where you were on the property, the
day of week or time of day…any details that you can provide
which bring your neighbors into the moment of the
photo…are eagerly welcomed.
Submit your pictures to jdavis@qns.com and yours
might be selected to be featured in the paper. Please be
sure to put “Cryder Point Photo” in the subject line of your
email and include the full name of the photographer and
an approximate date of the picture.
Dining Diva
LIOLA
BY HELENE OELERICH
LIOLA, a local restaurant right here
in Whitestone, is a popular place for
lunch, dinner, solo dining, families and
friends and good for kids! There is also a
bar where patrons can choose to eat and
drink.
Classic Italian dishes are served in an
elevated, exposed brick dining room
with white tablecloths and a lovely fireplace.
The service is exceptional. Our
waiters, Alfonso, Mohamed and others,
were knowledgeable and considerate.
The owner and chef of this “Ristorante
Italiano,” Angelo, has been here at LIOLA
for five years. He named the restaurant
from a man who was a poet, Luigi Pirandello.
Luigi wrote a poem called “Liola,”
which is the inspiration for the restaurant’s
name. His photo is on the dining
room wall.
There are specials every night. All
dishes are flavorful and beautifully
Winter evening at Cryder Point Photo by Joe Hollander
served. Menu 1 has salads, antipasti, eggplant,
baked clams, calamari, shrimp and
scallops. Menu 2 offers spaghetti, ravioli,
gnocchi, risotto and one of our favorites,
spaghetti with tomatoes, clams, calamari,
mussels and shrimps. Secondi dishes include
chicken, sirloin steak, veal chop,
filet of sole, grilled salmon and the fish of
the day. There are also side dishes, great
desserts and delicious coffee.
LIOLA is located at 15-01 149 Street.
There is valet parking. The hours are
Monday - Wednesday, 11:30am -
10:00pm; Thursday - Saturday, 11:30am

10:00pm. Happy Hour runs from 4pm
until 7pm, Monday through Thursday.
