C R Y D E R P O I N T 6FEBRUARY These Rocks Don’t Roll By Jill Davis As you all may recall, the original schedule for the completion of the seawall project was last November. Then it was moved to January. The revised target is now April. Ah well, neither Rome nor seawalls were built in a day. But actually, the delays have been a blessing. One unforeseen benefit to having the project stretched out has been the presence of Jimmy Mizrahi, our head contractor from Right Angle Contracting, on site regularly. After each significant weather occurrence, such as severe rainstorms, for example, he has been here to report on status and discuss with Management, the Board and the engineer any recommendations for changes to the original design. Should we increase the height of the wall down by the water? Yes. Are we adding sufficient drainage? A little more was advised. Do we need more boulders? No, there are plenty. Etcetera and so forth. And after last month’s blizzard, Jimmy has seen just about every kind of crazy weather occurrence we get over here. The blizzard was a true test of the wall’s integrity as a combination of 50 mile-per-hour wind gusts, high tides and a full moon resulted in water surges that went over the wall. In other words, for Cryder Point, the storm was on the level of severity of Superstorm Sandy (and we know what happened with that).
