THURSDAY, FEB. 13
1 Visit the Winter Biergarten at Brookfield
Place for the final day of the Best Brew of
New York City competition, when the public
votes on their favorite of 15 beers from around
the city. Admission is free and all profits from
beer sales benefit Leave No Trace, an organization
dedicated to reducing pollution in nature.
The competition finale will be from 4-9 p.m. at
the Winter Garden, no tickets are required. Get

2 A free photography exhibition at The Arsenal
Gallery in Central Park showcases the parks
and monuments in New York City honoring
African Americans such as Marcus Garvey and
Hattie Carthan. The exhibit is open every weekday
until Feb. 27 except for Monday, Feb. 17. For more

4 Warm February weather shouldn’t keep
you or your kids from keeping the cozy
winter spirit alive with the Yeti, Set, Snow!
Marionette show and Holiday Puppet Building
Workshop at the Swedish College Marionette
Theater in Central Park. The show, about a grumpy
yeti learning to enjoy the snow, starts at 1 p.m.,
with a felt puppet-building workshop starting at 2
p.m. Tickets for the show are $8 for children and
$12 for adults, and the workshop is $10 per child
participating to cover the cost of materials. Tickets

5 The Fraunces Tavern Museum is commemorating
Presidents’ Day weekend by offering $1
admission to the Revolutionary War museum
from Feb. 15-17. The museum is located in a
300-year-old tavern building used by both British
and Continental leaders. On Saturday and Sunday
at 1 p.m., visitors can join an hour-long guided
tour about the role New York City played in the life
and accomplishments of George Washington. The
tour is included with the price of admission. For

Guides will offer a tour of Frances Tavern, where George Washington once commanded the
Continental Army as its general and delivered his farewell address as president, in Lower
Manhattan this weekend.
SUNDAY, FEB. 16
6 Go inside the newly renovated Mount Morris
Fire Watchtower, a Harlem landmark in
Marcus Garvey Park. Urban Park Rangers
will help guide the free tour, offered from
noon - 3 p.m., explaining the significance of

MONDAY, FEB. 18
7 A panel of experts consisting of a history professor
from Northwestern University, a trustee
of the African American Historical Society of
Rockland County and an architectural historian will
talk about New York City’s early black communities
from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Langston Hughes Auditorium
in Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture
at 515 Malcolm X Boulevard. Admission is free
and seats are first come, first served, so registration
online beforehand is recommended but not required.

8 Kids can practice ‘ice fishing’ for toy penguins
that have appeared in the Bryant Park
fountain. This free event is from 11 a.m. - 1
p.m. at the Bank of America Winter Village, part

THURSDAY, FEB. 21
10 Kids out of school for the midwinter recess
can show off their skills beyond the arc at
the Midwinter Recess Three-Point Contest
from 1-5 p.m. at the Alfred E. Smith Recreation Center.
Boys and girls divisions will team up and compete
for bragging rights on the court. The event is free with
a NYC Parks Recreation membership, which is free
for anyone under 17 years old. For more information,
