Much of the messaging from VIPs
was come to Chinatown, eat in
Chinatown. Chinatown has taken
a big hit from the coronavirus outbreak in
China. But xenophobia is not the only thing
keeping the streets of Chinatown quiet. Chinese
people are absent too from the area.
Democratic district leader from
Chinatown, Jenny Lam Low, recognized
the absence of commercial activity in Chinatown.
Lunar New Year Year observances
is the time of much activity in Chinatown,
and responding to how business is, Low
acknowledged that business was at least
50% off.
Health is emphasized, as well as prosperity,
in this year’s New Years signage and
Lunar New Year’s messaging at the Lunar
New Year parade.
