Jamaica and West Indies
all-rounder Andre Russell is
among the overseas players to
make the ESPNcricinfo Lanka
Premier League (LPL) team of
the tournament, according to
Loopjamaicanews.com.
It said the 32-year-old Russell
scored 169 runs in what
was the inaugural season.
He had a strike rate of 194
and took eight wickets at an
economy rate of 8.92, Loopjamaicanews
said.
It said Russell produced “the
most devastating and most
memorable innings of the LPL,
when he came in to open a
rain-reduced five-over match.”
Russell hammered six fours
and nine sixes in a 19-ball
65 not out to lead Colombo
Kings to a record 96 from five
overs against Galle Gladiators
on Nov. 29, Loopjamaicanews
said.
It said Gladiators scored 62
in the chase to lose by 34 runs
in Hambantota.
“Russell didn’t play any
other big innings with the
bat, though there were a few
death-overs bursts,” Loopjamaicanews
said. “He was more
consistent with the ball; but,
with his fitness still a concern,
he didn’t bowl every match.”
The other overseas players
included in the team of
the tournament are the Pakistan
pair of Mohammad Amir
and Usman Shinwari, and Englishman
Laurie Evans, Loopjamaicanews
said.
After 23 matches, it said the
Jaffna Stallions came out as
the inaugural Lanka Premier
League champions on Wednesday
by beating Galle Gladiators
by 53 runs in a one-sided
final match at the Mahinda
Rajapaksa International Stadium,
Hambantota.
