GodSquad declines to support
election campaigns, endorsements
By Nelson A. King
With a number of candidates vying
for City Council and other elected positions
in June’s Democratic Primary,
Brooklyn’s 67th Police Precinct Clergy
Council, Inc., popularly known as
“The GodSquad”, has made its position
very clear on election campaigns and
endorsements.
“As we approach the 2021 election
season in the State of New York, please
be reminded that the 67th Precinct
Clergy Council Inc., ‘The GodSquad,’ is
a nonprofit corporation whose activities
are regulated in part by Section 501(c)
(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRS),”
said the GodSquad, whose president
is US Virgin Islands native Pastor Gil
Monrose, in a statement on Wednesday.
“As such, our organization is absolutely
prohibited from directly or indirectly
participating in, or intervening
in, any political campaign on behalf of
(or in opposition to) any candidate for
elective public office,” it added. “Guided
by this prohibition, our organization
has not and will not endorse any elective
candidate or political party.”
However, the GodSquad said candidates
or their designees are welcomed
“to appear at our events for non-campaign
related activities, such as an educational
or informational talk to the
organization but not for campaigning
of any kind.”
It said “any donation, support, or
act of kindness given to our organization
by any candidate for elective public
office, or their designee, will be publicly
disclosed/acknowledged.”
It also said photos, logo, or name of
the 67th Precinct Clergy Council Inc.,
“The GodSquad: cannot be used on any
campaign material.
“Endorsement by any individual clergy
member of our organization does
not reflect or represent the position of
the 67th Precinct Clergy Council Inc.,
‘The GodSquad’”, the statement said.
“We respectfully request that candidates
refrain from making any statement,
whether public or otherwise, in
contravention to the foregoing prohibition,”
it added.
Bklyn Dems want Senate to convict Trump
By Nelson A. King
Brooklyn Democratic Party leader
Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte
Hermelyn wants the US Senate to convict
former President Donald J. Trump
and prevent him from ever holding
office again.
Bichotte, the daughter of Haitian
immigrants, who represents the 42nd
Assembly District in Brooklyn, on
Wednesday praised the Senate for voting
that it is constitutional to try
Trump for incitement of insurrection
and violence against the United
States government, saying he should
be punished to the fullest extent for
his actions.
“How can you view the tape and
see the anguish Trump caused and
not understand what the former president
is guilty of?” queried Bichotte
Hermelyn in response to the graphic
video that was presented at the trial
on Tuesday.
