West Indies fast bowling legend
Sir Curtly Ambrose has
expressed disappointment with
the performance of young fast
bowler Alzarri Joseph in the
recently concluded series loss
to England.
The 23-year-old was tipped
for a breakthrough performance
ahead of the England
series, but that promise failed
to materialize.
Joseph had several bright
spells of bowling when the
teams met in the Caribbean
last year, but in the rematch on
English soil he failed to live up
to expectations.
Joseph claimed figures of
two for 98 in the first Test,
before getting 1 for 84 in the
second Test. He was replaced
in the final Test by off-spinner
Rahkeem Cornwall.
Ambrose, once one of the
world’s premier fast bowlers,
believes the young West Indian
may have bene guilty of being
too passive.

Premier League (IPL), any window
for an overseas bilateral tour would
now be difficult to create.
Organizers announced recently
that the lucrative IPL would now be
staged in the United Arab Emirates
from Sept. 19 to Nov. 8.
The period had also identified by
CWI as a possible window to host
South Africa in a short Test or limited
overs series, at the back end of
the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)
which runs from Aug. 18 to Sept. 10.
“West Indies has been postponed
indefinitely. We are struggling to find
a time with the IPL being fitted in,”
Smith told a media conference adding
“It looks like our players are going to
be needed from the beginning of September,
government-permitting, and
travel permitting.”
South Africa were scheduled to
play two Tests and five Twenty20
Internationals from July 23 to Aug.
16 before the covid-19 pandemic halted
cricket across the globe.
But with West Indies’ three-Test
tour of England hailed as a success
for “bio-secure” cricket, CWI had
hoped to lure South Africa to the
Caribbean in order to kick start its
home program.
However, Chief Executive Officer,
Johnny Grave had also acknowledged
that any home series would have
been dependent on when the CPL
was played.

“But at this stage the final is
scheduled for June 2021. But we are
working with members on that, to
understand their rescheduling of the
series that are postponed already,”
he said.
The CEO said the nine top-ranked
teams are scheduled to play three
series each at home and away to
determine the finalists with India
leading the table currently, followed
by Australia.

team for the tournament which will
be played exclusively in Trinidad and

Trinidad.
There will be no fans at the two
venues because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Manager of the team, Colin Borde
said the team will go into the camp
from Aug. 3 to 8 and training will commence
from Aug. 11 to 15.
The international players left New

they joined other international players
