As we exit the pandemic and
more Brooklynites are becoming
vaccinated, we must evaluate
what a return to "normal" looks
like. What was "normal" for New York City
before the pandemic? Underfunded schools,
inaccessibility in our public transport,
inadequate health services, and violence. Is
it really in our best interests as New Yorkers
to want to return to this normal?
Council Member Farah Louis believes
that our return should transform what we
knew as "normal." While the city was shut
down, Farah Louis did not stop fighting for
Flatbush and remained productive in the
City Council even in the face of crisis.
At the beginning of the pandemic, Farah
Louis opened over thirty food pantries and
worked on the ground to
ensure that quality meals
and PPE were delivered
to the people who needed
them the most. Farah put
her leadership over her
safety to make sure that her
community was cared for.
Not only did she support
on the ground, but Farah
Louis continued to fight
for COVID-19 relief in
the city council. She
introduced legislation ensuring late rent
payments would not impact credit scores
and supported the expansion of mortgage
assistance for home and small business
owners affected by the pandemic. This is
coupled with pushing schools to make sure
that online learning resources are available
to all students.
Yet, even during the pandemic, Farah Louis
kept focused on issues greater than the
virus. As the virus raged, she continued to
fight for the completion of the East Flatbush
Senior Residence, community investment in
summer programs, and worked to ensure
the dream of the Shirley A. Chisholm
Community Center is finally realized. Over
and over again she has proved herself
a capable leader in the city council who
can tackle multiple priorities that face her
constituency.
As we exit the pandemic, Farah Louis has
created a plan to transform Flatbush to
prevent us from falling into the pitfalls of
before.
Farah Louis will fight for healthcare:
ensuring that mental health resources
and maternal care are accessible to all
Brooklynites.
Farah Louis will fight for accessibility:
working to overhaul the MTA to serve all
New Yorkers.
Farah Louis will fight for
our community: ensuring
that affordable housing
is guaranteed and that
residents can take back the
streets.
I want to ask you again what
"returning to normal" looks
like to you as a New Yorker?
We can not allow ourselves
to fall into the pitfalls of
"normalcy" that did not serve and provide
for all New Yorkers, and Farah Louis
will fight to transform our system. She
has proven herself an effective leader
with an established history of fulfilling
promises and will continue fighting for her
constituency needs.
Let's re-elect Farah Louis for District
45, so we can ensure a bright future for
our community. Whether you are voting
absentee, early June 12 through June 20,
or in-person on June 22, vote Farah Louis
as your #1 choice for the Democratic
Primary.
