Eslene Richmond-Shockley
is a special person. The
Guyanese-born humanitarian,
founder and CEO of Caring
for Others, Inc. whose goal is
to eradicate food insecurity
globally, on May 15, officially
opened a 25,000-sq ft. facility
to increase daily distribution,
to more than 80,000 pounds
of food.
Richmond-Shockley, who
grew up in the small village
of Nabaclis on the East Bank
of Demerara, said the opening
of the 3501 Browns Mill Rd.
South Atlanta Food Bank, is a
culmination of her lifelong passion
for helping others.
During an interview with
the media, the charitable lady
said: “It was a blessing to give
something back to my adopted
country. The positive impact
of this facility on the revitalization
on the south side of
Atlanta is enormous.”
“Our goal is to eradicate
food insecurity, which in turn
will help end poverty once the
stress and food costs are taken
off plates,” said Richmond-
Shockley.
“The pandemic has exacerbated

the need for basic needs
and shaken us to the core.
But because of the goodness
of humanity around us, Caring
For Others was able to maintain
and grow our business
through the opening of the
South Atlanta Food Bank,” she
added.
According to reports, a
health crisis forced Richmond-
Shockley to rethink the meaning
of her life, as such; she
quit a 15-year corporate job
to focus on helping others. In
2001, with $25 and a higher
calling, she started Caring For
Others.
She had initially rented
part of a warehouse for three
months at a price of $1.
From its humble beginnings,
Caring For Others has
grown to buy and expand the
building.
The compassionate lady, who
launched the human services
organization over 14 years ago
to provide meaningful improvement
in the life of people living
in poverty, has brought much
needed help to residents in the
Tiger Bay Georgetown, Guyana
Community.
The phenomenal giver has
also aided citizens of Belize,
Antigua, the Philippines, Nigeria,
Jamaica, the Dominican
Republic, and many more people
across the United States.
Richmond-Shockley who
has been described as passionate
and dedicated to charity
work through her non-profit,
offers nine signature programs
ranging from sending a convoy
for care to disaster-hit areas, to
creating international microeconomic
centers, according to
reports.
