Brooklyn Democratic Party
chair Assemblywoman Rodneyse
Bichotte Hermelyn on
Tuesday endorsed State Sen.
Kevin Parker in his bid for New
York City Comptroller.
With her endorsement, the
daughter of Haitian immigrants
joins Congresswoman Yvette D.
Clarke; Clarke’s mother, former
Councilwoman Dr. Una Clarke;
Public Advocate Jumaane Williams;
Brooklyn Borough President
candidate Khari Edwards;
and Assemblywoman Latrice
Walker in supporting Parker for
comptroller.
Bichotte Hermelyn represents
the 42nd Assembly
District in Brooklyn, which
includes Flatbush, East Flatbush,
Ditmas Park and Midwood.
In the Assembly, she is chair
of the Subcommittee on Oversight
of Minority and Women-
Owned Business Enterprises.
“As someone who has known
Kevin for many years, I know he
is the right person for the job of
comptroller,” said Bichotte Hermelyn.
“I have seen firsthand
his academic expertise when
we were both fellows at MIT,
his legislative skills as my colleague
in Albany, and his dedication
when we are working in
the community in Brooklyn.
“And as the chair of the Subcommittee
on Oversight of M/
WBEs (Minority Women Business
Enterprises), I know he
will fight for women and people
of color to receive their fair
share of city contracting dollars,”
she added.
Parker, who represents the
21st Senate District in Brooklyn,
said: “It is truly an honor
to receive this endorsement
from the pioneering Assemblywoman
Rodneyse Bichotte
Hermelyn.
“In Albany, we work together
on issues such as M/WBEs
and ending intimate partner
violence,” he said. “And, in
Brooklyn, we are pounding the
concrete together. I regret that
we will have to spend less time
together when I become comptroller
next year.”
Parker has served in the New
York State Senate for 18 years,
representing Brooklyn’s diverse
21st Senate District.
