 NYC present s Daniel Rozin
 ‘Shades’: Tuesdays – Saturdays, 11 am – 6
pm, through April 23. Description: Daniel
Rozin’s practice has investigated the nuance
of reflected portraiture and mechanical choreography
for nearly three decades. In his latest
exhibition, the artist pairs the evanescent
experience of live image creation with a variety
of new materials. Rozin implements a masterful
manipulation of light and shadow to create
complex dynamic images and colors, the focus
of which grants this exhibition its name. Rozin
is an expert with uncanny materials—a challenge
he implements as an artistic constraint.
In Chopstick Mirror the artist refigures a
familiar dining utensil into an element of representation.
  Although the artwork is intrinsically
mechanical, it attempts to display the viewer
by echoing the fluidity of their motion. The
 resulting depictions are interactive images
investigated through the constraint of onedimensional
linear objects. This piece acts as
an experiment beyond the mirror, inviting reactions
from the piece itself, such as gestures of
friendliness, surprise, and coyness, in addition
to generative routines and sonic compositions.

 Thursday, April 21. Five Borough
 Songbook, Volume III : Description:
5BMF’s 2021-2022 Season continues this spring
with the World Premiere of the Five Borough
Songbook, Volume III! A special co-production
with ON SITE OPERA, this new cycle of
fifteen songs, duets, and ensembles by fifteen
composers was commissioned in honor of
 5BMF’s 15th Anniversary and On Site Opera’s
10th Anniversary seasons, and marks the third
 installment of 5BMF’s critically-acclaimed quinquennial
 FIVE BOROUGH SONGBOOK project.
Featuring new works by Arianne Abela, Raquel
Acevedo Klein, Kinan Azmeh, Colin Britt,
Majel Connery, Laura Jobin-Acosta, Will Healy,
Brian Lawlor, Jessica Meyer, Angélica Negrón,
Nkeiru Okoye, Juri Seo, Aaron Siegel, Darian
Thomas, and Jonathan Woody, the Songbook
derives its inspiration from locations scattered
throughout New York City — three songs for
each borough — to create a mosaic of the city’s
past, present and future. The Songbook’s texts
are drawn from a variety of sources: written
by the composers themselves, from existing
poetry (including Joseph Tusiani, Amy Lowell,
 and Walt Whitman), and newly-commissioned
words in Arabic by Firas Sulaiman, in Spanish
and English by Noel Quiñones, and by Valerie
Seeley. This April, the Songbook, Vol III will
receive its World Premiere in a free performance
at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Dweck Cultural
Center, co-presented by BPL PRESENTS, followed
by the Staten Island premiere at Trinity
Lutheran Church. Both concerts feature an
all-star lineup of artists, including performers
from the acclaimed vocal super-group KALEIDOSCOPE
 VOCAL ENSEMBLE — sopranos
Michele Kennedy and Gitanjali Mathur, mezzosoprano
 Cecilia Duarte, tenor Haitham Haidar,
and bass-baritone Jonathan Woody — as well
as pianist Candace Chien, violinist Pala Garcia,
 and cellist John Popham. bklynlibrary.org/

Thursday, April 21. All the Mournful
 Voices: Description: April 17, 1865.
Easter Sunday. The weekend of Lincoln’s assassination.
Three men reel and rage together
 in a tavern. A stranger’s unexpected arrival
 sparks suspicion, reflection, and something
mysteriously cosmic. All the Mournful Voices is
a purgatorial bar play that focuses on the death
of Abraham Lincoln and examines inherited
cultural legacies of violence and loss. Opening
night is slated for April 15 and coincides with
the 157th anniversary of President Lincoln’s
assassination, a major subject of the work.

Thursdays: Socialista is a representation of
 how the privileged pre-revolution Habaneros
lived, a Caribbean playground, filled with the
romance, excitement, music and flavors of the
Cuban socialite culture. Inspired by the eclectic
architecture of old Havana, the diverse interior
 combines colonial European influences with
20th century modernism. The design features
French antiques and plantation style rattan
furniture, covered in rich velvets and brocades,
resembling a stately home that has stood still
in Cuban History. A tribute to the Caribbean
island’s rich cocktail history, the menu will
offer a mix of quintessential Cuban drinks
and Socialista signatures. CALL OR EMAIL
