The studio that brought
fl icks such as ‘The Amazing
Spiderman 2,’ ‘John Wick’ and
‘This is Where I Leave You’ is
opening its second location in
the Bronx next month.
In January, York Studios’
Michelangelo Campus, a $100
million state-of-the-art fi lm
and television production complex
will open at 1410 Story Avenue
in Soundview.
Executive vice president of
the studio John Battista said
four of the fi ve stages are licensed
and expects the last
one to be occupied soon.
“This was a vacant 10-acre
site that came on the market in
2012,” Battista said. “We were
so successful in Queens that
we decided to expand. It’s one
of the last boroughs to take advantage
of the private sector
business.”
He told the Bronx Times
that elected offi cials, especially
Borough President Ruben
Diaz Jr. have supported
the expansion.
“The fi lm and television industry
is growing across the
fi ve boroughs - and the Bronx is
no exception,” Diaz said. “York

Campus will not only expand
our borough’s ability to host
major movie and television productions,
it will also reactivate
a long-dormant site and create
new jobs. This is just another
excellent example of the ongoing
positive transformation
that is taking place here.”
The studio will feature
a privately-gated complex,
which includes approximately
350,000 square feet of production
space, nine sound stages,
production offi ce space and
workshops for each of the
stages.
The production complex
will be responsible for the future
releases of fi lms, documentaries,
television programs
and even music videos.
The new studio is located
on the Bronx River waterfront
and just off of the Bruckner
Expressway, was a vacant lot
for over 20 years.
It site was the former home
of Loral Electronic Co., a U.S.
Department of Defense parts
contractor, that moved its operation
to Yonkers, but has
since ceased business.
York Studio also currently
owns and operates a 40,000
square-foot location in Maspeth,
Queens.
This would become the borough’s
second fi lm studio.
Last year Silvercup Studios
acquired a building on Locust
Avenue in Port Morris. Silvercup
has operated for years in
Queens.
