MTA NYC Transit can assist

cleaners at end of the line terminal
stations. This could include

and #1 Van Cortland

Every year judges sentence
non-violent offenders to perform
several hundred hours of

war crimes
Dear editor,
New York State should arrest
anyone who has ever
worked at Guantanamo Cuba
prison for being an accessory
to the War Crimes of Torture.
U.S. service man have the
right to refuse a illegal order.
Those that did not should be
court-martialed. Checking
NYS taxes can fi nd them all.
If our government does not
follow the law then New York
State should take the lead.

can it be to push a broom, pick
up trash or mop a subway car
fl oor? Why not ask any major
business, college or hospital
who benefi t from subway stations
adjacent to their facility
to sponsor cleaning crews as
well?
NYC Transit should also
consider installing separate
cans for recycling newspapers,
plastic and glass along
with regular garbage. Selling
advertising on the side of cans
could generate revenue to help
cover the costs of more frequent
off-peak and late-night
collection and disposal. If
asked, the NYC Department of
Sanitation could do the same
on the street adjacent to subway
station entrances. All of
the above could assist in keeping
our fl eet of over 6,000 subway
cars clean.

This week’s As Stated contains
a rebuke and a salute to
Governor Andrew Cuomo latest
efforts.
Riders Alliance statement
on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s
MTA police hire from Policy
and Communications director
Danny Pearlstein..... “Today,
Governor Cuomo saddled
the MTA with a new police
force it can’t afford and
doesn’t need. He made that
decision in the face of all the
evidence, arguments, and diverse
voices in opposition.
These new hires will be the
governor’s cops.
“Now the governor must
deliver more and better transit
service. He needs to act
with the same force he applied
to the police hire. New Yorkers
are sick and tired of long
waits for subways and buses.
New Yorkers need more service.”
The following statement
was issued by Sara
Marinello, Wildlife Conservation
Society vice
president for Government &
Community Affairs..... “The
Wildlife Conservation Societ
commends New York Governor
Andrew Cuomo for his
environmental leadership in
proposing to ban the use of
single-use polystyrene foam
food and beverage containers
and packing peanuts.
“The widespread use of
single-use polystyrene foam
products has been a source of
environmental pollution clogging
our waterways and joining
other plastics as one of
the largest sources of marine
debris worldwide, ultimately
impacting wildlife. Like plastic
straws, polystyrene foam
containers and peanuts are
not recyclable.
“WCS’s New York Aquarium
is educating and empowering
New Yorkers to make
eco-friendly choices regarding
single-use plastics through
Ocean Wonders: Sharks! and
the Give A Sip campaign.
This important step builds
on other actions taken by the
governor and other state leaders.
There is much we need to
do to address the threat that
plastic poses to marine wildlife
this session. WCS encourages
New York policymakers
to take swift action to eliminate
polystyrene foam food
and beverage containers from
our waste streams.”
