East 151 Street is renamed after Richard Propper
On Sept. 27, NYC Councilman Rafael Salamanca,
U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, and the HUB Third Avenue
BID honored Richard Propper for his contributions
to the business community within the South
Bronx and across the state with a street renaming
ceremony at the intersection of East 151st Street and
Third Avenue.
Also in attendance were members of the Propper

After 16 months of postponement
due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Preston
High School hosted an alumnae reunion
for class years ending in 0s, 5s,
1s, and 6s on Saturday, Sept. 18. The
double celebration began with mass,
followed by a delicious luncheon catered
by Posto 22 in the cafeteria and
back porch, with alumnae from various
years in attendance.
With great joy and excitement,
members from the classes of 1955 and
1956 were in attendance and recognized
for celebrating their 66th and
65th reunion, respectively. The Class
of 1970, the largest class ever to graduate
from Preston, was ecstatic to celebrate
their 51st reunion together and
had the biggest turnout at the event.
Those present and celebrating a milestone
anniversary were recognized individually
with a rose, which Nancy
Weihe ‘70 said was “such a beautiful
symbol of the love and friendships
we’ve had at Preston, what a wonderful
and heartwarming reunion.”

“Thank you!” to Bronx Borough
President Ruben Diaz Jr., whose generous
allocation of $1 million in 2018
funded a brand new outdoor play
space that was unveiled on Sept. 30.
Students at Success Academy
Bronx 2 Middle School, along with
kids from Bronx Writing Academy
and JHS 22 Jordan L. Mott, will no
longer be playing on a cracked expanse
of cement. Instead, Diaz’s allocation
has provided the 1,200 children
from the three middle schools
located at 270 E. 167th St., with an
array of colorful and vibrant amenities:
a brand new four square court,
a full-length basketball court, a
half basketball court, and a jungle
gym full of climbing structures and
swings.
