A year after the COVID-19 pandemic
caused the cancellation of the
popular Longwood Festival, City
Councilman Rafael Salamanca, in
conjunction with the Hispanic Federation
and Freddy Perez Entertainment,
hosted the second installment
of the festival on Sunday, Sept.
26. Matching the incredible set list
from the fi rst festival held earlier
this summer, renowned Latin singers
Luis Vargas and George Lamond
headlined the musical performances
that also included local Bronx musicians.
Routinely drawing upwards of
15,000 people, the annual Longwood
Festival was cancelled in 2020 as a result
of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following
clearance from city offi cials,
Salamanca and festival organizers
were able to hold the fi rst installment
of the Longwood Festival in
June of this year. Despite triple-digit
heat indexes, thousands of New Yorkers
turned out to hear the incredible
sounds of Grammy-award winning
Salsa singer, La India.
In addition to live musical performances,
Bronxites enjoyed carnival
style games and attractions, delicious
foods and festival giveaways,
amongst other things.
