No need to start with the news
of the day, we all know what’s going
on, or at least should know, as
good citizens.
Now is the time to make sure
you vote, exercise your right and
your civic duty. Absentee Ballot
NYC was easy, believe it or not.

Until next time: Hope all are
doing well and hanging in as best
as possible! Support our police.
BY AL D’ANGELO
Let me begin by saying unequivocally
what happened
in Minneapolis was a travesty
and in America we have
a right and a duty to protest.
That said the disgusting behavior
over the past week
should worry every American.
A peaceful protest was hijacked
by a well-organized anarchist
group called ANTIFA.
Bricks, rocks and batteries
were handed out to throw
at police and some ignorant
protesters were swept up in
the mayhem and turned into
criminals, looting and damaging
property.
Offi cers were attacked
across this country and elected
offi cials were either slow to react
or complacent. The offi cers
stood and did their job despite
being attacked and verbally
abused. Who has their back?
Not most of our elected offi -
cials who are looking to score
points with the black community.
These are the same politicians,
who if they chose, could
make a difference in the innercity
communities but instead
just render lip service. One
elected offi cial at a rally was
overheard saying, “I wouldn’t
be here if it wasn’t an election
year.”
Others gave to a bail fund
to help release law breakers so
they could continue to disrupt
our city. It wasn’t the peaceful
demonstrators who were arrested
hence their donations
are condoning lawlessness.
A protest on Fordham Road
resulted in numerous arrests
and when they were processed
it was discovered the majority
of those arrested had outstanding
warrants. Let’s thank
those politicians for that great
bail reform that really helped
protect the people.
What about the Manhattan
DA who refused to prosecute
the vandal who scrawled graffi
ti on St. Patrick’s Cathedral,
does he stand for law and order?
Then of course there was
the one-time FBI informant,
turned-minister, Al Sharpton,
who further fueled the fl ames
of division with his rhetoric.
He will disappear into the
woodwork until the next issue
he can sensationalize.
The police are under attack
for an incident that 99.9%
agree was wrong. These are
the same police you call when
you have a problem; the same
police who are taking the drug
dealers off the streets; the
same police who chase down
rapists and murderers; who
run toward the problem when
we are running away as they
did in the World Trade Center
where so many died and many
are still suffering from the after
effects. They took an oath
to protect and serve not to be
abused and ridiculed. How
would you feel if your son or
daughter was a police offi cer?
Did anyone ever consider what
would have happened without
the presence of the police during
the past week. How safe
would you have felt knowing
there was no one to call as rioters
and looters ran unchecked
through our streets. Maybe
you could have called a politician
I’m sure they would rush
to your aid.
New York City Police are
the best in the country, and
they deserve better from the
people they protect every day.
The blame game has already
started. Let’s defund or do
away with the police, this is
their fault, or let’s blame the
President because he’s a racist
even though he has done more
for the black community than
the past two administrations
combined.
Do you ever wonder why
the black community has
the lowest employment, children’s
test scores are the
lowest in the city and life expectancy
is the shortest? It’s
because no one cares. The
drug gangs keep the community
in fear, and no one cares.
They are fi ghting for a better
life for their children and
no one cares. Most of their
schools are subpar but no one
cares.
Why are politicians opposed
to a voucher system
which would even the playing
fi eld and allow children to go
to the school of their choice.
The answer is simple – union
money and political support,
that’s why no one cares. We
need fearless black leaders
to fi ght not for the cameras,
but for the people. We need
all these politicians to roll up
their sleeves and go to work
after the cameras are off and
the elections are over. Don’t
blame the police offi cers, politicians
should look in the mirror,
therein lies the problem.
It takes commitment to solve
these problems not lip service.
The meaning of insanity
is doing the same thing over
and over and expecting a different
result. Your vote is your
power, don’t give it freely.

Thank you to our members
that have sent in their
dues. Several of you have
sent extra, even in these hard
times and it is very much appreciated.
Even though we
have not had civic meetings
during the pandemic, I can
assure you that we have still
been working hard for our
community.
Our intention is to resume
in-person meetings at the Lutheran
Church in September.
But until then, we need ways
of getting information to our
members. With this in mind,
we are working to bring you
several virtual meetings. I
know that this is new to many
of you, myself included, so we
will learn together. Actually,
it is not all that diffi cult.
To log into our June 23rd
meeting, use the link below
and follow the instructions.
As soon as you click the link
you will be transported to
our meeting.

Even though the meeting is
weeks away, you can try both
log in and dial in just to practice.
It will tell you that you
have reached Zoom and then
you will know that you did it
right!
The above log in link is
long so if you prefer to make
it easier you can e-mail me
at mjmusano@aol.com and I
will e-mail the link to you so
that all you have to do is click
on it instead of copying all of
those numbers and letters.
You can also reach Andrew

KITTENS
One of our members has
several adorable kittens that
she will give to a good family.
We have more time at home
now so this would be a great
time to grow your family by
rescuing a sweet kitten. If
you are interested, please email
me or call me at 718-792-

Please stay safe!
As the world comes together
to shine a light on racial
injustices through peaceful
protests, prayer and poetry,
some are using this state
of unrest to loot businesses
across the country including
here in New York. Within the
past few days, we’ve watched
in horror as many businesses
in our borough have been vandalized,
looted and burned.
The Westchester Square
has been vigilant in keeping
our merchants and their
businesses safe during this
time. Westchester Square BID
is committed to the safety of
their district and small businesses
that have already
lost so much through the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite these setbacks, the
perseverance of the community
has been astounding. To
help support these businesses
even further, the BID has
taken the initiative to hire
additional security guards
and use drones to surveil the
area.
Through all this,
Westchester Square BID has
kept constant communication
lines with the local 45th
precinct. With that, they have
been able to keep the area secure
during the day and especially
overnight while the
8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew was in
effect.
“We are taking all precautions
necessary to keep our
residents, merchants and their
property as safe as possible,”
said Executive Director Yasmin
Cruz. “We have a great
working relationship with the
members of the 45th Precinct
and have put together an effective
plan to keep this district
running smoothly.”
Westchester Square is comprised
of diverse small businesses
that believe in unity
and solidarity. During times of
diffi culty, it is imperative that
we continue to uphold these
qualities as we overcome challenges
together and hopefully
bring about change.
