Teacher Scholarship
Preston High School history
department chairperson
Jennifer Connolly, who is
also an alumna of the all-girl’s
high school, received a teacher
scholarship to attend the War
College seminar at Fort Ticonderoga
in upstate New York in
May 2020.
The program is an independent,
non-profi t educational institution
and museum that seeks
to preserve, educate, and provoke
an active discussion about
the past and its importance to
present and future generations.
Congratulations Jennifer!
Notable Passing
Marilyn Arlene Cohen,
born Marilyn Glucksman on
June 4, 1930 in the Bronx, was
a proud wife, mother, grandmother,
and great-grandmother.
She lived each day of her
nearly 89 turns around the sun
for her family and for life’s simple
pleasures—a jumbo word
search, a lobster tail, children’s
laughter.
She lived in Brooklyn,
Queens, Indiana and Florida,
but never shed her Bronx accent
and would return to her birth
borough for the last years of her
life.
She preferred her lipstick
red and her chocolate milky,
and emanated pure loving kindness
at every touch point in her
life, no matter what the circumstances.
She took her last breath
peacefully surrounded by four
generations of family and the
most caring staff and sisters at
Providence Rest Nursing Home.
She is survived by her son
and daughter and their spouses,
four grandchildren and their
spouses, and four great-grandchildren.
She will live on in the many
lives she touched and in all she
taught us about compassion,
kindness and love.
Orchestra Directors
Two borough residents, Anthony
Morris of Co-op City
and Steven Rochen of Riverdale,
are currently leading the
ISO Carnegie Hill Orchestra, a
youth orchestra comprised of
musicians at an intermediate
level.
Performances include
concerts at Symphony Space,
Lincoln Center and elsewhere.
