Scanlan’s Track Team
competes in the CHSAA

On Saturday, February
8th, 2020 Monsignor Scanlan’s
Track Team competed in the
CHSAA (Catholic High School
Athletic Association) Intersectional
Championship at the
Ocean Breeze Recreational
Facility in Staten Island, New
York. The best athletes from
throughout New York State’s
Catholic High Schools were in
attendance. Student Athletes
Hannah Gadpaille and Jordan
Providence continues to
perform well among the elite.
Awards: Plaques were given to
every Champion of their event
and medals were given to the
2nd to 5th place fi nishers.
The competition was fi erce;
therefore, awards were hard
to earn. The following events
were contested: 55 meters, 55
meters hurdles, 300, 600, 1000,
1500- and 3200-meters races,
relays and fi eld events.
Sophomore Student Hannah
Gadpaille was blessed
with a plaque and title “Champion”
of the Varsity 55 meters
dash. Last year, Hannah took
second in this event. She will
represent CHSAA and Monsignor
Scanlan in the NYS (New
York State) Federation meet.
Jordon Providence showed
that he can compete with
the CHSAA elite in NYS. He
made the fi nals in the 55- and
300-meters dash. Jordan was
blessed with a 5th place medal
in the 300-meter dash. Aris
Vlahos ran his personal best
in the 55 meters dash. Sister
and brother, Jesna and Joel
John ran their season best
in the 55 meters race. Nana
Achampong ran his personal
best in the 300 meters dash
and Andreas Vlahos had a
strong showing in the 600 meters
race. Jaheim Penn competed
in his 1st Indoor track
meet and took 12th place out
of 44 athletes in his section.

Tuesday, February 18th, the
Eastern States Indoor Championships
at the New Balance
Armory in Fort Washington
NY. Come out and see your future

Velocity Track Club had
an outstanding weekend! On
Saturday, February 8th, 2020
we competed in the Millrose
Games at the New Balance
Armory in Fort Washington,
NY. The Millrose Games is
the world’s longest running
and most prestigious indoor
track & fi eld competition and
was seen on USATF.TV. They
had a few races for our youth.
VTC qualifi ed to participate
in the 12 years & under Girls
and Boys 4x200 and the Girls
8 years old & under fastest Kid
in the world 55-meter race.
The competition was fi erce
with thousands of spectators
in the stands cheering. In the
Girls 8 years old & younger
representing VTC & Antigua,
was Cameron Joseph. Cameron
took 3rd place in the 55
meters dash, earning a Bronze
medal. The Girls 12 years old
& under (Dakota Hickman,
Talia Dixon, Sania Grant &
Saniah Caldwell) 4x200 took
5th place and the Boys 12
years & under (Shalom Grant,
Sachin Ramharak, Parker &
Steven Monegro) took 2nd in
the 4x200 meter relay, earning
them a Silver medals. Great
job to all!
On Sunday, February 9th,
VTC competed in the YMCA
Series at the Brooklyn Armory.
There were over 800
athletes and over 50 teams
competing. Medals were
given to the top fi ve individuals
in their event / gender and
top three relays teams. The
following events were contested:
1500-meter race walk,
1500-meter run, 200- & 400-meters
race, 4x800 & relay, long
jump and high Jump. VTC
were bless with 10 medals and
eight athletes broke their personal
record. The following
athletes earned medals: Brianna
Burrell, Pierce Parker
(2 medals), Julian Caldwell
(2 medals), Jada Clark, Saagi
Hemmings, Tiarra Jackson,
Adonijah Washington and
Candice Palmer. The following
athletes broke their (PR)
personal record: Candice
Palmer, Rakae Thomas, Jada
Clark, Hannah Defl orimonte,
Madison Scott, Drea Santiago
and Kenise Bramble. Awesome
job! The highlight of the
meet was the coaches / parents
4x200 meter relay. Our
coach / parents relay team
represented VTC well.
Our next meet will be on
Sunday, February 16th, the
USATF Pre national Invitational
at Ocean breeze Recreation
Facility in Staten Island,
NY and Monday, February
17th, the NYRR Armory Youth
Championship at the New Balance
Armory in Fort Washington
NY. Come out and see
your future Olympians!
